Any Idear of the pit falls:beerjug:

You may not get enough separation on the HID's to see any benefit of having two units.

The problem you might find with the HiD conversion is that the bulb might be too long for the light, therefore not fitting and also the reflector may well distort the beam. Ending up with a bright but poor beam pattern.

Be interesting to see the results though if you go ahead with the conversion. It would be well worth PMing Les Wassall of HID50.com for some advice.

Thank you will do:cool:

I rather like the look of that. :thumb2

I have to agree, those twin lights do look good 'especially cut into the fly screen like that'.
What worries me though is that they are quite small 'about 3" each' I think. They are designed to fit in place of a standard 7" headlight.

The 7" light can be very good, and I'm quite sure that a twin 3" won't be as effective as the larger single. Lots of extra light by virtue of the extra bulb, but the smaller reflectors (2x3=6) can't match the 7" IMO.

Now :rob If you were to fit the twin lights from a Triumph Speed Triple/ Rocket or an older GSXR, these being 4.5-5" each. Now your looking at 9-10" of reflector surface, and really cooking with gas :thumb2 These two puppies fitted with HiD would be ......... Awesome :bow

I think the ones sold by Touratech et al are 100mm - 4 inch in old money.
An inch can make all the difference:comfort

100mm

:D

well 95mm if you measure were the reflector starts and not the outside of the lens.
Any one got the true size of the TT pair

Their blurb just says 2x100.
They also say you should only fit the normal 55/60watters to an R1100 and the R100 should use the weedy 30/35 watt bulbs.
I believe the units are identical, except for the bulbs issued.

A mate of mine is making me a copy the GS carrier bracket out of aluminium of the same thickness as the original plastic jobbie.
The reasoning of the bulb wattage is that there is not the heat-sink with the plastic and it might all get a bit hot in there and melt "stuff" - Germany requires DRL remember.
If I don' use the alloy bracket I will offer it here first:aidan

twin headlights

Hello,

I'm in the process of doing something similar on both my airheads. One is a cafe racer with a Ducati monster fairing. But the one of interest is a Dual sport
special. It will have a /5 tank with a modified GS roo bar. The headlight assemblys for both bikes, I used a Yamaha 88 FZ (crotch rocket) 600 & 1000.
I like the /5 or /6 large tanks. They have a classic look and they hold 6 gallons
U.S. I don't need more than that. The headlight assembly will be caged in a
flat bar oval hoop that will be integrated into the roo bar. My front end is off a Susuki 450 RM and my rear driveline is much the same as one I saw on this
site. An extended /7 swingarm with an upper diagnal hoop that supports a
monoshock with the upper mount on the bottomside of the main frame back bone.

Hi Ian and welcome.
Now lets be seeing some pictures please. :thumb2

Anyone have experience with PIAA?

I see in American publications ads for these kind of bulbs. They apparently have 60-65 watts H4 that gives stronger light, like a 100 W will do.
Any experince?

i use Philips Super H4 that supposed to give 50% stronger light. cost much more than standard H4 but also much less than PIAA. I can't realy make any comment about its advantage, I don't remember how it was before... I do remeber a disapointment though...

Happy new year everybody.

One of the problems that you might find is that unless you can fill in the gap between the lights you can tend to get water/muck thrown into the wiring, This was the main reason for changing the twin h/lamp setup that was on when I bought Bertha. I have now put on a fairing that does enclose the lot properly. worth considering the problem.:rob
