just ripped spokes out of back wheel

i've tried to upload a piccie or three but to no avail

it has quite literally snapped one clean off at the rim and left the nipple in it, but no spoke remains.... the other has left about 15mm of spoke left at the rim (bent hard into the interior of the rim) and the rest of the spoke has gone AND the thrid has bent hard inwards streched but not snapped!

ouch!

Resize them to 640, we want to see or upload to an image host, like Photobucket

Was it after the Rally

Hi JB

Yeah K" Kielder - it was from slipping into a ditch moving up to the chekpoint 3 on the 2nd day second lap... lads helped me get out, big handful of throttle, but there must have been a big rock sticking out under the water - only noticed it last night when getting all the mud off the bike. Rode 60 miles fully loaded (camping) with a naughty back wheel!

Poor bertha :blast

This I have to see :eek - email them to me if you like and I'll host them for you - I've PM'ed my email address.

cheers
M

Can anyone help?

Anyone got any spares or do i need to bother my local dealer? :thumb

Get them from Motorworks because they are more likely to have them in stock if you're in a hurry. I tried a BuMW dealer recently and they didn't have spoke nipples or grub screws in stock: I still can't decide whether I'm surprised they didn't have them or not. :nenau

right then - thanks Matt i will get them over to you thanks
and yep i called motorworks - in post first thing - excellent service.
5 new spokes complete (just in case i find a few more are bust )

:D

Looks like someone attacked your wheel with a lump hammer :eek

Your next question will be "how do i get the spoke nipple out of the rim, it appears to be seized solid".

:augie

i take it thats the common problem with the spokes/rebuilds then? :blast

was gonna give it a go tonight.

I have soaked it in the usual, and have a braddle to tease it out with perhaps.
Dont know - i'll ask the question when i get stuck  UNLESS someone has a very useful tip for me before I destroy a very expensive rim :thumb2

Shame its damaged the rim though - thats quite a gouge.

Clean the remains of your wheel weights off while your at it. Tut tut for leaving 'em on.

Just stick the broken spokes back together with duct tape, it appears the rest of the bike is held together with the stuff.:D

I've no idea what (if any) special techniques there are but Id probably try to straighten (ish) the bent over one apply a bit of gentle heat and plusgas and hammer on the remaining stub of spoke (fairly gently). it'll probably mushroom over so if / when it does release you might have to snip or dremmel off the end.

The one that's snapped almost flush with the rim is tricky. I'd carefully dremmel it off flush use heat / plusgas again and attack it with a parallel pin punch (not a centre punch).

Good luck :thumb

yep - a spoke is well and truly stuck!

AND ive found two more knackered ones :(

Jst cant get a purchase on the snapped flush one, ive hurt the rim a bit trying to get to it... double :(

i think this one may have to go to a workshop to be pushed through! I'm beaten! :nenau
