Just found this forum after buying my 2002 1150gs last week. What a wonderful resource and so many old geezers to boot -read that as you will lol.
I must say I:m mightily impressed with the gs after 20 years on harleys posing and preening.
Looking forward to a few long leisurely trips around japan this coming Spring Summer and Autumn. Anyway - just a hello from deepest Asia.
Always a bed here for passing riders !

Just like big, bulky and soulful analogue cameras aren't popular rather hated aside of japanese digital cameras in Japan (altough they kick digital's ass in image quality) same goes for German bikes for japan riders (in terms of "riding quality" for europeans)

Good to see there're japan riders who do exceptions and think different!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Actually I am off on a little jaunt down to Ise Shrine tomorrow morning with 20 or so of the local BMW owners touring club. Mostly RTS and other road bikes but at least 4 other GS and a couple of ADVs. Average age of the club members is in the middle 50s which suits me down to the ground lol
From what I understand the monthly outing sometimes gets 40-50 bikes out on a weekend. Cold as a witches tit at the moment so only the real kamikazes braving it tomorrow.
I am in the mountains just outside Suzuka in central honsyuu.

Hey Gramps, I'm off to Japan in March! My other half is from Kobe, we'll be over there for a couple of weeks from the 5th. Spending the first week driving around Shikoku Island and Hiroshima, then back to Kobe for the 2nd week.

I might have a couple of free days while she's doing stuff. Might be able to jump on a train and come over your neck of the woods - wha town are you in?

Hey there Muppet ! Hell yeah come on over if you want. Im in Mie prefecture which is only an easy 2 hour train ride from Kobe. The name of the town is Kameyama - your wife will surely be able to tell you how to get here. Would be only too happy to put you up for a night or two if you can stand the
mess and the constant presence of a tribe of kids.
We live in a small village at the foot of the Suzuka range so its no Tokyo but we love it.

I went to Japan last MArch for a holiday and loved it. I fell in Love with Hiroshima and the people there so warm and open. (I also bopught an Arai Tour X for £138and a tinted visor very cheap.
When I was there the only non JAp bikes I saw were HArleys and BMW GS's. ASs they drive on the left side it would make an ideal place to go touring. I bought one of the Japan Rail network rail passes which are only available to foriegners and it was fantastic value. I wanted to go back this year but a house move is changing all that (even selling some bikes to finance it... :-( )
You'll have a ball.
