personally if i ever get pulled over(and with the country nearly bankrupt and can ill afford police overtime) ill say they are replacement light units and i'll try and blag my way out, and riddle them with european type approval bullocks.
also thought about(and i did say think) about puttting a small screen wash pump and reservoir on the bike to keep the lights clean anyway, wouldnt that be swish.
I reckon this could be a sticky...

What oil should I put in a HiD equipped bike and should I use 98RON petrol and what are the best Tyres to use on it and can I connect an optimate straight to the battery which I'm assuming should be an odessey?

That's all well & good, but it doesn't help me decide whether or not to park up with the panniers attached, or bring them inside, does it ? :nenau
 
i wonder what the fine would be?

and can they clamp/impound/crush your bike? for causing a nuisance to the public?not so funny.huh?
ps my panniers are bolted on,dont come off.

to be honest that article looks like the usual journalistic arse gravy
Section 59 warnings are basically to stop boy racers wheel spinning round car parks and the like
there also trying to make out changing your tyres and having a noisy vehicle invalidates your insurance which again i think is bollocks ,its only performance enhancements that they need to know about .if your lights are faulty you get a producer and 5 (or is that 7days) to rectify which i believe is the bit hids would come under

As i do not ride around in a convoy with others with the stero booming and disturbing residents. i will consider that the advantage of the HID to my visibilty and the increased view of the road ahead. is worthy of the chance of me stumbling on to a traffic man.
a traffic manthat is who has in depth knowledge of this legislation and the abitity to check and gather the evidence that i am in breech of the legislation to the extent i recquire a section 59 warning.
i will also stand well back when he starts fiddling behind the headlight with a 25KW cable

From the insurance point of view it any addition or change that would affect its likleyhood of being stolen, or broken into, so fancy sound system and or fancy wheels are relevent from their point of view and they will invalidate your theft cover if they find out.

From I think April the Met wont be issuing producers, either your vehicle is shown as taxed, mot'ed and insured or its not, if it is no producer needed and if its not then its gets seized!!
Not sure if its a good idea but its comming regardless
 
It seems to me we are getting more and more like a communist state every year with rules and regs meaning "you cant do this and you cant do that".

No wonder people turn to drugs and drink. People need somethign to excape the trudgery or everyday life.

I choose my bike and cars....And now they try to spoil that too.

I'm trying to vote with my feet :)

i say its my bike and stuff the plod.2 of my bikes have HID and im not taking them off.... beaureaucratic tossers.I know the score,and now cos of this thread so do a lot more, and you are right, they are always meddling with something.
ah well drugs and drink sound good too, got any of that fertilizer?i'll either get mashed or blow meself up.

Any probs just tell them that your favorite RAC man put them on his bike and blame him.
( or how to loose mates and annoy people!!).
 
Section 59 of the Police Reform Act allows a constable (ie any police officer) to issue a warning to the driver of any vehicle which is causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public. Should the same driver (in the same or different vehicle) or vehicle (with same or different driver) be warned a second time within 12 months the vehicle may be impounded.

I wonder if there could be an argument for officers to use this provision if someone claims that an "illegal" headlight is causing them distress or annoyance.

not really illegal on bikes,
i even rang vosa,refered to that article ,,,they checked, and all is good,
not that id take em off anyway,

when is someones point of view law?
that article is mainly about cars anyway
 
I've just removed the HiDs from my 2003 LR Disco and replaced with 'normal' bulbs. I have a wee court case coming up which the appearance of flashing my headlights was perceived by a CID officer as aggressive and has resulted in my facing a very serious driving charge.

I have replaced the HiDs because they were cheap shite and one blew and would cost £100 to replaced rather than £25 for a pair of xenon bulbs.

If they have a reason to do you then they will find anything and everything to fuck you over.

In a word, "no". Most Forces' policies only allow Sec 59 seizures for Anti-social Behavior, as already described (chavs with loud exhausts, sound systems etc. doing do-nuts, rat bikes doing wheelies etc.) and then only after a recorded warning has been issued. Sec 59 would not apply to lights as this is a Construction & Use offence and you'd need to be unlucky enough to encounter a seriously anal traffic man with very little else to do to be done for this. Personally, with 2 years and 2 days left I couldn't be a***d with it.
