The bike has done less than 1,500 miles since it's last service a year ago & has done a total of 16,250 miles from new.

Estimate is £435.70. :eek:
 
Ouch!

I’ve got a quote from BMW Cheltenham for a 2009 GS. Catch up services (so the full works) is going to be £320

Total nonsense that. Just do it yourself or do 90% of it and let a good independent do anything you don't fancy. I'm doing my 2013 GSA TC now and repainting the front cover, centre stand and some chips on the rear sub frame and giving it a good spring clean while I've got it on the ramp. Bought the oil filter and washers for the drainplugs and a pair of exhaust gaskets from BMW dealer and oil from OPIE Oils, total spend about £70. I did the valve clearances myself last year so they don't need looking at again this year as they were well within tolerance. I've also dropped the final drive and checked and re-greased that as well as cleaning and checking all the calipers and pads and all the fastenings, none of which your dealer will do.

A BMW service history is not worth that sort of money.

What he said!

It is easy enough to change the oil and filter, and to check/replace the air filter. Check the brake pads and brake and clutch fluid levels - takes seconds. If you are not confident doing the valve clearance checks take it to and independent and get them to put a stamp in the service book. Might cost you a couple of hours labour at the most.
 
I'm going to check the small print on the extended warranty. If it doesn't have to be done by a main dealer it will be heading to Melton Mowbray.
Tufty's right, I wouldn't have the first idea how to find a spark plug, let alone change one.

To be fair I'm just looking at the service history costs and I think they've been pretty reasonable so far :-
21.12.13 - 1st service £90.82
5.7.14 - mileage 2,698 £80.75
24.9.14 - 7,703 $415.18 (done in the U.S.A.)
26.9.15 - 9,268 £185.84
28.5.16 - 12,498 £355.05
9.6.16 - 14,696 £228.51.

When I rang them back yesterday they explained that they've quoted me for everything BMW says the bike needs but won't do what doesn't need to be done in their opinion. Looking through the receipts it's clear that this is what they've done previously and they've always looked after me in the past, Steve the service manager in particular.
