I'm trying to reduce the amount of tools and oils that I need to take on a trans african trip planned for later this year.

I have a K&N air filter and I want to know if there are alternatives to the recommended K&N filter oil used when servicing the filter. I don't really want to take a bottle of K&N oil if I can use something else that I already have in my kit

I've heard that you can use wd40. Has anyone else tried this?

Apologies if this has been asked already, but the search does not seem to like "k&n"

If you're going trans Africa definately don't use a K&N filter, it'll get clogged with dust, use the paper one and shake it out at regular intervals:thumb

If your bike has no servo/abs, store a spare paper filter in a poly bag in that space:)

I meant to add, coat the inside of your airbox with a thin layer of grease to trap a lot of the dust.
You can wipe this out with bog roll or anything and you'll always find a dollop of fresh grease somewhere:thumb

Air filter

Throw it away and fit a std filter, just knock it out and all will be well we got more dust on our bukes after an up and down on the dalton hight way when
the whole bike had a thick covering of the stuff, just knock it out it doaent go in just sticks to the out side take advice from those of us who have done it. have a good trip.
