k-tech rear shocks for the 1150gs

Researched the company and they get favourable comments,but cant find any info on the durability or quality of the discount shock they make in house for the 1150 gs........

my oe one is now more of a pogo stick than anything else

so i have splurged 250 sovs on one...........

when I phoned the company they said the 1150gs shock was a popular seller

a rebuildable waranted shock for 250 quid.........yea it might be

so who has one and are they ok?

what do I need to know about setting it up......the guy in sales told me they will be ok for 2 up with luggage...........

Having read a number of popular bike mags recently I seem to recall an article on suspension along the lines of "lots of racing experience and now branching out in to road shocks" - was this Ktech they were talking about?

I nominate you as special tester - buy one and tell me what they're like

Ah - just looked at their website.

They've no remote preload adjuster which accounts for £200 or so with most manufacturers.

I guess this'll make tweaking the preload for two up use etc a bit tricky for you (I'd imagine you might have to take the wheel off?).

Interested to hear how you get on with it (although they don't do an 1100 version so I couldn't have on even of I wanted one )

It should be despatched on monday ........here in 3 to 5 days and hopefully wont take long to fit.

I cannot compare it to an oe shock...........mine is goosed

It just doesent damp any more ...at all........was touring in may ,1 up with panniers and noticed it was getting a bit boingy...........

went for a blat the other day ,1 up no luggage and weeeeeeee it was a pogo stick ride

so anything would be better..........but oe shock giving up on an 11 yr old bike with 57000 on the clock aint bad..........

Fitted one of these 6 weeks ago and it has made a big difference to the handling. I hadn't realised how tired the original had got.

It was easy to fit and the build quality looks good for the money.

I haven't tried it with a pillion yet , but there is an adjuster at the bottom to firm
it up a bit . Hopefully this will be enough, otherwise it has to be removed to increase the spring pressure as you cannot get to the lock nuts.

The adjuster on the bottom is just for damping, it won't do anything about the spring pre-load to cope with extra load. I guess this is why GS shocks tend to have remote pre-load adjusters...

Ok it does what it says on the box.

It must be preloaded for 'tossers' as I dont find it too hard

the damping range is huge ......I got it just right now and am a happy sandboy

the only tiny downside is..........its showing up my front suspension


but the rear end is now the best behaved that I can remember

How difficult is it to change the preload?

I left it where it was.

its a castelated nut over the spring ............probrably a right faff if you were into adjusting it every trip

I didnt have issues with the spring eaven with my huuuuge panniers on

Had a visit to their website and 'yes'; they do sell fully adjustable shocks for close on £1,200 but, not for the 1150GS.
No doubt a set could be made up of parts if you have the cash.
