K100 side stand

Hi chaps, I have an 1984 k100rs with a fully spring loaded side stand and I want to change for the later one where the spring is only used to hold it up.

Can I change the stand only, or do I need to change the whole mounting assembly as well which includes the centre stand?

Any information will be gratefully received. Thanks. MG

Morning Barry, yes, could be. Does your side stand stay down when you take your foot off it? If so so yes photos will be great. M

You mean the one, when you pull in the clutch lever it pops up? There was not a self lifting stand on a K Just the clutch activated one!

Are you by any chance old school and are pulling the clutch in when you mount up ? I am just trying to figure this one out You could just remove the cable for the activation?

If I recall correctly the later ones without this feature had an Inhibitor switch fitted to the stand mechanism to cut the ignition If you selected a gear when the stand was down

I always thought it was a Neat trick But always keep your clutch release arm pivots well Lub'ed and do not force trying to remove the Pin! The lugs or the pivots will break off

Edit maybe the mechanism has been assembled incorrectly?

The clutch pivot arm acts on where the faded number one is top centre of the pictogram

Your part 12 may be fitted incorrectly I seem to recall that being an issue

Thanks for the pictures, the clutch lever has no effect, the stand is spring loaded all the way down and as soon as the bike moves to a nearly upright position ie: no weight on it it flies back up. On other bikes I am used to flicking the side stand down then getting off. If I do that now and get it wrong the bike ends up on the floor with my left leg trapped underneath.

I will check my bike again to make sure I everything is correct. BTW it bike has not been apart as far as I know.

Well it looks like the side stand bolt on my bike is too long as it stops lever 12 from moving all the way so increasing the tension on the spring.

Smartbazza, your larger picture show that lever 12 is moving right over the top of the bolt when the stand is down, mine is not going past the shoulder on the bolt.
I will have to shorten it so that lever 12 can go all the way.
