My 1991 K100rs16v has started to leak oil from the drive shaft rear bellows at the diff. end . The jubilee type clip was slightly loose but tightening it did not help , it still leaks . Do I have to strip the complete drive system to replace the bellows & if so are there any tips /pitfalls that could make life easier ?
Any help would be appreciated .

Cheers

It isn't oil-filled like old Beemers, so you need to undo one of the gaiter clips, have a peer inside and see if you can spot the source of the oil. It will either be (down) from the gearbox output-shaft seal or (up) from the final-drive.

Check both gearbox and final-drive oil levels. If neither are low, clean the inside of the gaiter and shaft housing, re-fit the clip and then check it again after some use.

Thanks Mike , will check this out . I wonder if the fact that I dropped the bike away from me last week when taking it off the centre stand ( the bike`s getting too heavy for me ! ) has anything to do with the leak .

The oil could've been in there a while. Your "drop" may just have dislodged the gaitor.
It is not unknown for the seals to temporarily leak (overfilled gearbox/final drive).

As Mike says, let the oil out (you might be suprised how little is in there), clean up the gaitor and then monitor oil levels.

Harry,

Post some pictures of the bike, if it's too heavy (and it's a nice one), I might be able to help you out by swapping it for a nice, lightweight K75. ;):D
