K1200S (ignition behaving wierdly).

I have just got my bike out after a few months tucked away in the garage, of course the battery was flat so has had an Optimate charging it for a day. Now the battery is charged (I think) when you turn the ignition on it goes all 'wierd' flashing all different things up including flashing the rear light on and off, after a short time this all settles down and the normal display is shown at which point I hit the start button but nothing at all happens.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so could you guide me as to how to fix it.

An Optimate will not charge a flat battery...
