I currently have a 2010 RT which I have owned for 2 years.

I have always had a hankering for a K1300S, I test rode a K1200S about 7 years or so ago and had it not been for the servo brakes I would have bought it over the Fireblade I ended up with.

I am 59 and 6'2" so would need a little 'adapting' to make it more comfortable for my long legs and rapidly ageing body. I have seen Verholen do bars which bring the reach 3 3/4" nearer and higher and a foot peg lowering kit which gives about 1 1/2" more legroom.

Has anyone else adapted a K1200 or 1300S in a similar fashion and did what are relatively small adjustments make much difference.

I would use it for the usual weekend riding and for a couple of longish tours in the UK and Europe each year.

Thanks.

Friend of mine has a K1300S with the straight bar conversion. He says it is really comfortable, added an after market screen. I think Phil is more 5'11. You're in Dunstable, he is in Turvey on the A428. Come over to the club one night if you want to have a chat and look at it.

Or if you want to chat to him I'll ask him.

Am in a similar position to you, have had the K1200S for a year but I am having problems with the wind noise (I am 6"2') and the pegs are too high and I think a little too far forward for my stupid clown feet. I have already replaced the levers (nothing to do with my height but I felt the reach of them was too far), am just about to fit a peg lowering kit and try and find a better screen. Will let you know what works ! I had the seat re-covered and raised an inch or so which has been a good start, is much more comfy and better for fitting luggage on the back seat than the original.

I have heard that the bars from the R will fit the S and bring them up a bit.

Correct, either the 1200 or 1300 R will do. You'll have to find a set first.

Have you tried a K13GT? It's significantly "roomier" than the S, with great wind protection.

Pillion complains about wind blast only above 240kmh (in Germany on the A8). Last year she fell asleep while we covered the last 100km to Berlin on the A9 in 30 minutes ;-).

No need to change the handlebars as they are adjustable by about 10cm so there is no pressure on your wrists.

I tried the K13S and bought the GT instead, pretty much for the reasons you outlined. YMMV.

Not that I've ridden an S but I have a K13GT too. Same engine - starship performance and 50+mpg, roomy and luggage too!

I'm 6' 6" and fitted Helibars to bring the (OE adjustable) bars nearer and higher, plus MV Verholen footrest lowerers (had to modify rear brake pedal to get proper location and gearlever still needs tweaking - too close to my size 11 boot but I've done 5K miles OK). Bike had a tall Vstream screen on it when I bought it - could do with being a bit taller but did 1700 miles in Scotland this summer OK.

The 1300 engine is a masterpiece; all the 1200 gremlins (fuelling, cam guide) sorted. Just endless power. Sadly the 1300 has just been dropped by the factory, the GT went when the K16GT arrived.

Good luck with your search; ride until you drop!
