Hi,

I am seriously being drawn to a K1300S,

Currently have a 2010 30th Anniversary 1200GS, lovely bike, but lately have not stopped looking at the 1300S

I would welcome any pointers good or bad ref the 1300S. I would be looking to purchase either the Anniversary model or possibly the Motorrad version, Used Low mileage with history.

Let the games commence !!

Many thanks.

There's one for sale on the non gs thread... I also want one but prices too high... And not sure I want to sell my gs...

I know what you mean Joca,

It's a tough call !

Joca,

I did see the advert, but the mileage is a bit high for me,

I've had the K13S over year now and am very pleased with the move. I use it mostly for long trips, 2-300 miles per day on the continent for 14-20 days at a time.

Comfort depends on your size. I'm 6 ft 4 and 18 stone and it's very comfy for me. If you're taller, it may be uncomfortable. I've done 500 mile days with no issues re: comfort. As it's somewhere between a GS and a pure sport bike in terms of riding position, the ergonomics are something you'll have to try out before buying.

It's very powerful, very smooth and very stable and can do the twisty bits as well as long motorway rides very well. Hairpins (like on Stelvio) are a bit more difficult as the wheelbase is very long (about the same as a GS)

Less wind protection than on as GS or GSA, but not substantially different as the riding position means the head is lower and the little windscreen does a decent job.

While the model has now been phased out by BMW, they've been around since 2009 and are pretty reliable with most of the kinks worked out.

Strangely enough for a sports tourer - no cruise control (even the S1000RR has one!)

Generally , a very well made bike, and I'd venture to say, probably one of the best sport-tourers out there. No idea why BMW killed it, but probably to use the 1 litre platform across more bikes.

You can get a new one at a pretty good price now as the dealers are moving out their last pieces.

I also think they look great!

I did approx 13k miles on my 2009 K1300S, probably one of the best bikes around. It's only restriction was luggage, the sports panniers are rubbish except they are really easy to put on and take off. If you are single or not touring it is a great bike.

Thanks very much guys for your input,

It all helps, I tried the link you sent MVRandery, but was unable to view it, my IP address was banned !!

I have contacted the site so maybe I can view it in a while,

Cheers.

The lugage is not so good, agreed.

A 50L dry bag can put on the top of the luggage rack - in addition to the panniers.

I've had my K1300S for 3 years and done 13k miles on it, touring all over Europe, two up or on my own. Fantastic engine, more power and torque than you'll ever need and as someone said, handles like a sports tourer - needs a good shove to change direction at speed, but superbly stable. Smooth as a baby's what's it at slow speed and in town. I thought I might fit helibars but never bothered and it's a comfy bike for a 6 footer. Decent pillion room too. I've had absolutely no problems with mine, not a single blip. I had a K13GT before this and it's a pity they're no longer available. There's another site you might find useful - eurokclub.bike

Best way to find out is to ride one. I did and bought one. Was for sale as fleet reduction needed but flogged a car instead. It may be mine you were referring to as too high miles, if so 32,000 on a 1300 engine moving the weight of a bike is frankly sod all. I rode a fleet demo first and then mine, IMHO mine was a smoother engine.
Give it a good test ride, I got of a GSA onto this so quite a change in riding position

When I was trying to sell my 1300s a couple of years ago, I realy struggled to sell it and did in the end for £7k with only 7k miles on the clock. It was in A1 condition. Great bike but I like the sit up riding position now.
