Took my 1250GSA in for its running in service this week and was given a K1600 as a loaner.
I expected to love it and have a dilemma as to wanting one, but although it is lovely bike, I found the GS to be more comfortable, more responsive at lower revs, more manoeuvrable and just a nicer place to be.
I know they are different bikes for different customers, but it just demonstrated just how good the GS is.

Err, did you twist that thing on the right hand bar, all the way round? That does make an impression on most folks.
But equally yes, I do understand your comments on the competence of the GS.

That 6 pot motor is a peach when it's spinning though. Needs a good Akrapovic 6:1 I reckon!

I've owned both ( in fact most BMW models over the years), the K16 is a great motor, but too heavy for me nowadays. Slight change of subject, but I rode my GSX s1000GT from Norfolk to Halifax to collect something a couple of days ago, only stopping to refuel twice, quick drink of water and a wee, 8 hours in the saddle and not hanging around and that alleged ex-K5 engine is a peach and surprisingly flexible, not much gear changing needed on that one. (like the K16)

No. As it was a new one, I didn’t do high revs. Lovely sounding engine. I did get the impression that it would need to be revd to get the best out of it.
Lovely bike, just GSA is better. IMHO.

There are differences between them but both great bikes, so to silence the little voices of doubt I have one of each ;)

I was offered one as a loaner at the last service but declined as it was too big and heavy where i was planning to go on some thin tight roads. It looked the business and is an awesome bike but it all depends on where and how you intend to ride, my GSA is still a big and heavy lump but surprisingly agile and versatile and that's basically why i bought it. I came across one of these 1600's a couple of years ago where a guy had managed to lay it down at the side of a road, it took 4 of us weaklings to get it back up.
