I am sure there has been much discussion on here previously on the subject of the K1600?? But a colleague at work is considering buying a 61 plate K1600 GTL E with 18,000 on the clock, full BMW service history and wants to know if there any buying tips i.e. specific things to look out for he recalls reading something about drive shafts?
Being an RT owner myself I have told him to test ride an RT as they are much lighter and very capable of two up touring but if anyone can offer any other tips it would be appreciated.

I think the best tip would be to have his friend ask the question in the "K-bike section" :P

Ignore the comments from the flat earthers here. The K1600 is a very accomplished sports tourer.

I've had both 2 Hexhead RTs and have just completed 14,000 miles on a 2014 K1600GT SE. A very different riding experience.

Yes, it's a handful in the garage and at standstill but the engine and chassis are superb and once moving although nowhere near as flickable as an RT can be hustled around at speed with confidence.

Try looking at the following link:

Early bikes suffered horrendous corrosion problems and some had problems with the gearbox. Look on the K1600 GTL recalls page on Facebook
