Karoo or TKC80 tyres??

Tell me your opinion please...

For pure dirt use (well maybe 90/10) - Karoo.

For 50/50 dirt and tarmac - TKC80.

Karoos are especially better in mud. TKCs have loads more tarmac grip, for example when I had TKCs on my 1200, it was pretty easy to raise the back end under heavy braking, with Karoos the front tyre just slides.

You'll be lucky to get 2000 miles out of the rear using the Metzeler Karoo on tarmac, or 4-5000 with TKC80's.

Much more grip on tar with the TKC80's, but more grip on dirt with Karoo's.

Heidenau

Before you but TKC's look at heidenau's , significantly many german riders use these. Similar to TKC's but much better wear and very grippy. I have been using them all through the winter, as recommended by Mad Mountain Man. I agree 100% with this.

The only problem with TKC80 on tarmac is that it has very poor grip on wet "glossy" tar. The difference to Anakee is dramatic on this surface. Be careful!

I have two sets of wheels to my R12GS. One set with TKC80 and one set with Anakee. Since I find the R12GS to heavy for offroad use anyway I see no need for Karoo.

TKC80 I use wen I ride 50/50 gravel/tarmac and the Anakee I use for 10/90 gravel/tarmac.

If I had used the R12GS for 100% tarmac my choise would have been Michelin Pilot Road.
