It's a Black K100RS 1983 so it should be on an 83 D plate it was on A980 FPA

Black with White pinstripes It did have the standard touring panniers with the flap locks rather than the barrel locks

The was 95,000 miles on here when I sold to a youngish feller 25 ~ 30 ish called Brian who worked for the Bank of Ireland

I've been looking a while I just thought i may as well give you Dubs something to watch out for

we updated our number plates in 1988. There are any number of reasons it could be on a 1983

You've lost me. The main reason it should be on an '83 is because it IS an '83 , which a D plate isn't. Are you saying your whole plating system is different to across the water whereby you have can a 'later' plate ('85/'86) an older vehicle?

The licensing in Ireland is completely different to the U.K. e.g.

83 D 12345

83-year of first registration
D-Dublin (licensing authority)
12345 -sequential number of vehicles registered by that authority in that year.
