Keep GS or Get FJR

It ended with me buying a 02 fjr, with nearly every extra on it.
Had reasonably low mileage on it, ohlins rear shock, givi screen, panniers, baglux cover & bag, renthal bars (plus originals), yam heated grips etc.
Really liked it and got a great price for my 02 1150 from a dealer in Cork ???(more than I paid for it 19 months ago & 12kmiles later).
Really like the fjr and it's sporty feel.
I'm heading to France, Switzerland, Austria & Germany on Wednesday next for 10 days, so this should be the test of it.
Went for 800 mile round trip in 2 days to the North West 200 a few weeks ago and couldn't fault it, good bike.
I'll let you know what I think.

A m8 from work did a similar trip on his FJR and needed two rear tyres

I thought about changing my R1200GS for a FJR- After a quick test ride on FJR 13
and the new K1200GT there was no choice in the end.

GS is gone and I collect my K1200GT next Monday from Vines :D :D :clap

I`d second the K1200GT option, mine has done about 7K now, two trips around Europe in 2006, best bike I`ve owned, although a GS would be nice as an extra, cannot justify it. john

Not a keeper

Well, I thought my FJR (03) was a keeper back in May 06. Yes it was great in Scotland in May. (Not very warm and all that.) In July had a week plus in France, the Alps, and that area. Yes it was a warm spell on the continent but the Bike and the heat coming off the engine it roasted me. Literally. Had balls like walnuts. I had read about the 'heat' problem, but boy, even at speed there was no escape. It also made me tired and took away the enjoyment of a great trip. I also struggled in the twisties with it. Perhaps it was me, I accept, but all my previous trailee's seemed to 'handle' better.

The end result was, a month after getting home I swopped it in. Did more or less a straight swop for an ex demo Tiger with 1000 miles on the clock. I do not regret that for one moment. I understand the latest FJR deal with the heat issue. For what its worth !

The looks of the latest FJR hasn't improved very much though has it?
Old model looks better IMHO

Hi Dave,

Had exactly the same issue with the ST1300 Pan European I had last year. Got roasted when it was hot, so much so I barely used it during the latter part of the summer !

Have also now reverted back to the trailee style which I believe is the best configuration, picking up new Tiger in March.

cheers,

Alan
