Keeping your feet warm

Glad they`re better than the old boots! The windchill & spray onto your boots for 4 hrs won`t have helped but the spray guards in the pic above would`ve been perfect keeping most of the spray & cold wind off. :thumb Then again how warm do you want the end of November to be? :D

This doesn't exactly address the question, but it's kind of on-topic..

I tested a pair of SealSkinz recently - basically waterproof, breathable socks.

They did a fantastic job of staying dry under very testing conditions, but were not particularly warm (which is odd because they're reasonably thick and the materials they use are known to be good for thermal insulation).

So, if you're thinking of these as part of your winter solution, they'll keep you dry as anything, but do factor in a warm pair of socks as well.

I have had a pair of Fre Daytona RoadStar GTX Goretex boots (£235) for the last 5 years and have yet to get cold or wet feet. Just replaced tham with a pair of Fre Daytona Trans Open GTX Goretex boots (£265).

'Kin awesome kit, but pricey.

BUT, my wife endorsed them, when at the NEC looking for decent boots, she remarked "well you have had them 5 years of daily use, just buy some more, at least you are certain they'll work ok, and they earn their keep". Nuff said.

I ride right through the winter and wear altbergs with army wooly socks when it gets really cold. They never let me down in 20k miles (except where water got in the big hole at the top where yer foot goes in.

I'm not pals with HG in Glasgow who refused to change gloves that leaked "until we've had them tested". Not impressed with their idea of customer service. I suspect a perfunctory look and "but we didn't find anything wrong" then I'm out £99. Try Bike Sorce. They've got a decent range of waterproof winter boots and Kate will not take the urine. Tell her Richard sent you.

BTW fancy having a go at a winter run out. Keep an eye on the Scottish section.

I've had a pair of HG rallye GTX II boots for a year now. They are fantastic and are still going strong.

Only recently when the temp dips to -5c have I started getting cold feet. I wear Falke ski socks underneath but the cold is still seeping in. I calculated the windchill to be -16 on the motorway at 80mph so I don't expect the boots to cope with such a low temp alone. I'm tempted to look into the heated socks for those extra special cold days. :drool
