Keeps getting better

Great to hear you prefer the GSA to the GS Nutty.

Next you should think about joining the grown-ups on an RTLC. It's just a GSA with the niggly bits taken away and a few more good bits added.

I've even green-laned mine - although I wouldn't recommend it!

Hello Nutty - so pleased to read your experienced opinions. I'm a newbie GS owner - bought a new 2015 GS TE last week. Having come from Ducati 916's, R1's, and lastly a KTM 990 Adventure, I was becoming a bit disappointed with the several mechanical noises I have experienced so far. I'm also having to rethink gear change technique -- can't get the bloody thing to change smoothly every time.
I've read lots of posts re the gearbox and clutch, and have read other's comments about the noises etc., which at least stopped me worrying too much that I picked a dog.
Having just read your post, I am heartened that with usage, the beast will settle down -- I certainly hope so of course. Otherwise, and despite having avoided GS's all these years, i really like the overall composure and usability of the GS, and remain optimistic.
So, again, many thanks for some reassurance!

Always blip the throttle on manual down changes - I assume that you do not have a quick shifter? Once you have mastered the trick the gearbox is lovely and smooth apart from the small amount of clutch drag causing a loud 'clonk' going from Neutral to 1st once warmed up.

Do you have the Gear Shift Assist on your bike?

Once you have mastered the trick the gearbox is lovely and smooth apart from the small amount of clutch drag causing a loud 'clonk' going from Neutral to 1st once warmed up.

All my friends that I ride with, on Hondas, Yamahas, Triumphs and all manner of BMW's all have the clonk into 1st gear. It's funny hearing them all clonk into 1st at a set of traffic lights!:D

I naturally blip the throttle when downshifting, and gearshifts on both my Ducati's (916 & Foggy Rep) were very smooth, fast and quiet (and 'clutchless' with the Foggy Rep slipper clutch). Similarly, both my R1's were smooth and fast.

With the new GS, I can occasionally make clean changes up and down, but smoothness seems to depend on just the right rpm. Also, it is better when pulling away from cold, but tends to worsen when warmed up. Admittedly, it is brand new, with only 400 km so far, so no doubt there will be improvement.

I don't have the Gear Shift Assist, and was thinking that this innovation had probably resulted from an established need -- but maybe not.

Thanks again for your inputs.
