I had a whinge about Keis heated vests and gloves a while back......TBH I can't be arsed to find it, but essentially, I didn't like the way that a) the power outlet to the heat controller kept coming undone, leaving you having to get almost completely undressed again to re-plug yourself in (the vest id tight, so it has to go on as a base layer) and b) the under-arm plug/sockets for the heated gloves also came undone, with similar consequences.
Rather than whinging though, I reckon it's better to find a solution, so I turned to my ghey side and got out my needle and thread, a couple of extra large paper clips and a pair of multi-widgets.
If this is of any use to you, use it, if not, piss orff
Take a couple of these......
HINT......you can use any steel wire of appropriate thickness, but these big paperclips are something most people have access to and they bend easily.
You only actually need one, but by the time you've measured up, made a trial run, fucked one up, found the second one too sharp and then finally made a decent one, you'll need a couple
With your leatherman/pliers, straighten it out.......then make a loop in one end to pass around the 'barrel' of either the plug or socket for the main power linkage.
Then bend the neck of that loop 90 degrees to the plane of the loop and guess where you need to make the second loop.
Finish off by pinching in the ends of the length of wire so they don't stab yourself through the kidneys, then remake it half an inch shorter 'cos the first one was too long
With little imagination and hardly any skill, you can make something like this that holds the two plugs together buried under your clothing layers:
You can also see where I sewed through the hem of the jacket in the next pic, holding the dangling power wire and heat controller exactly where I want it to exit from my vest to pass out through to my left side......not necessary, but standing outside all layered up, trying to fish under my jacket and multiple layers to find the flying lead, very useful
The next bit is so obvious it's silly, but here we go.......
This is the under-arm joint to link the vest to the lead for the gloves......it pulls out
So, sew it
The heating panels go right up close to the edges of the vest, so I made sure I didn't go inside of the hem.....
Not a particularly tidy job, but I tucked the ends in and cut them close afterwards.....
I've since had so much less hassle using the vest, heat controller and glove leads.....the only remaining problem is how to put on a fleecy jumper without losing the glove-end of the leads, but a bit of fishing around and some swearing is sufficient......I MIGHT take the sleeves off an old sweatshirt and sew them on to the arm holes of the vest, then sew the wires in so that they come out on top of the wrist near the glove connection, but the biggest gripe with using the kit has been solved for me now
Little improvements can make life a LOT easier
