Keis heated vest power supply

Hi guys
Newbie on here just changed from a Kawasaki GTR 1400 and used to plug the heated vest into the aux 12v socket
Now can I use the 12v socket to the right of the clocks on my gs1200 or will my vest overload it, can’t seem to find the max load?
My gtr was rated at 5 amps max

Might work on low setting 5 amps if I recall i just about Max load But you can try as the canbus just shuts the socket down if it sees to high a draw

but a direct feed would be better anyway

Assuming the 12v socket you talk about is linked to the canbus system, then the limit is 5 amps.

According to the Keis site, their body warmers draw between 1.5 (low) and 3.3 amps (high) so they shouid be OK. That being said, the vest might draw more briefly when it is first turned on.

Plug it in and try it. If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, no harm done. If it works, then there is no point in fitting a direct feed, unless you want to use it for something else, like running an air pump.

It will work at all levels. If you then plug in gloves or sock you'd hit trouble without a direct battery feed.

I run a Keis waistcoat and heated insoles, almost always on the low setting from the canbus socket on my R1200RS. I use a single controller plugged into the socket and then a Y piece on the output.

I wire mine direct to the battery, and have the lead sticking out on the left hand side of the bike, and it can be easily stowed away behind a section of the frame.

Myself and my pillion occasionally both wear Keis gear so I've now fitted a PDM60 under the tail section, nice piece of kit and easy install, although not cheap.

On my GSA I fitted a wire direct to the battery. When I ride a RT1200 for Blood Bikes, it's plugged into the socket. Normally I only use it on low.

Like everyone else says, you’ll get away with a vest on a low setting from the plug socket, but any more than that and it will trip out. Which being a canbus system is no issue. It just comes back after a few minutes.

I run two jackets, a pair of insoles (can’t be beat!) and a pair gloves directly from the battery. I’ve also got an opitmate lead and for a while had an adaptor lead on that to power the Keis gear. However this failed during a snow storm on the continent leaving me very very cold! So I have the keis lead direct to the battery too now.
