Meanwhile, much later ....

Returning to the subject of the KeisX4 :

I received mine a couple of weeks ago, but had only tried it out stationary, so didn't dare attempt to post any opinion :augie

But, back on the road today, first impressiond are that thos seems to be a reasonably well made peice of kit. I also got a free controller, and ordered the (fused!) connector cable to connect to the auxiliary socket below the seat. It came with a fused lead to connect directly to the battery,

One minor niggle is that when you start the motor, it causes the CANBUS to siwtch the socket off, then back on again. This results in the controller going into its default mode, Off, Level 5. So, you have to switch it back on again. No big deal, but you do have to remember. The controller sort of hangs out of from underneath the jacket, so is out of sight, for me anyway. It came with a fused lead to connect directly to the battery, that would avoid the CANBUS reset problme, when it gets warmer I will look into fitting that instead:blast

I have a 60 mile each-way commute ( motorway and city driving); this morning at 5-6 degrees i had it on Level2 and was well toasty. There are heating patches positioned on the chest (one each side) and the kidneys (full width across the back), which seemed to target those core areas fairly well. Whether it was because the temp was not that cold today, or because the heated jacket kept my core temp up, I did not use heated grips at all!

I have no experience of any other brand of heated jacket to make any comparison with; in my early years I used to squeeze my Afghan coat on underneath a Belstaff, and latterly progressed to modern materials that keep you warm rather than smelling a lot. :rob

Now, back to the pocket-pissing ....

Tried mine today too.
A quick blast up the A32/B3349 to Odiham to exchange the wife's for a smaller one:augie at Motohaus.
Nice guys. I will be sure to do business again.

Followed by A30/B3400 to Andover, A3057/A30 to http://www.thehilltop.co.uk/ for lunch, then backroads through Broughton, Horsebridge, King's Somborne, Standon, Morestead, Corhampton, Old Winchester Hill Fort, East Meon then back down the A32 home.

The Keis did the job perfectly. Very impressed.
I need to get a battery pack tho, it was freezing in the cafe.:blast

Citybum

Any reason why you only rate is as "reasonably well made"?

I could also have said that in my experience it was the finest ever heated jacket ...;)

I have used it as described, not really a long term test. I have not washed it, nor screwed it up into a ball and rammed it into the corner of a pannier for a few weeks - but likely will do all of these.
It does not look like it would suffer from such use; it has no loose threads; it is warm even without the heated elements on; it fits snugly, but that depends on what size you buy and what size you are; It has useful pockets ( two outside and one in).

It does not trip the CANBUS.

It has a controller to limit the heat output. It has fused leads. It has an option to fit a battery pack for off the bike use, ( inside a dry suit, or ski jacket for example).

I have not worn it in the rain so cannot vouch for how waterprooof it is. It has no sleeves, so is not so good as a rain jacket :aidan

If I had to decide whether to buy another one? I would not hesitate, given my current experience, although I do not foresee the need to do so - unless Jackie decides to give winter riding a go.

CityBum,

Ta for that :thumb2
good report - and well put plain English.

Appreciated.

Keis Kit

I am interested in 1 x heated body warmer for myself plus 1 x heated body warmer and one pair of heated inner gloves for a pillion.

Has anyone used and will the Accessory 3 Way Connector Lead power all three of these items for two separate people as I would like to power all three items from one power lead, though I do have two accessory sockets if this cannot be done. If I buy now and get the free of charge Temperature Control Units can they be used independently of each other for both body warmers when powering through the one 3 way connector?

Advice gladly received.:D

What's in the box?

Including the 'free' power controller, is there enough wiring to wire the vest into a bike battery? Say on a trail bike....
And then to use it on a bmw I just need to buy an accessory plug lead to suit the Hella socket on an F650GS single cylinder model?

Timpo.

Ordered yesterday at 1545hrs, arrived today at 1405hrs:D
in the box! heated vest and free controller ( but no glove liners )
Rang MotoHaus and told they have a problem with the gloves,
seems they can OVER heat, so all have been returned.
My name stays on the list for when they have a fix.
The input lead is in the jacket pocket and only JUST comes out before
it pulls on the heated pad, came with the fused lead and control but i think
another lead will be needed other wise how the hell do you unplug it with out
haveing to remove your bike jcket first...looks nice kit.

Lyn, I have ordered one today, it's for Sarah Teach, and the reason I asked 'what's in the box?' is she can have the hard wiring on her Serow250, and the optional extra 'accessory lead' can be used on her F650GS.

This may answer your question about the adaptor lead:

controller lead plugs into jacket, power lead into controller lead. Unplug at contoller/power connection, which is plenty long enough to reach out of the bottom of the garage. :nenau

I will take a pic of mine tomorrow to show you, my control lead has about 4inch
of cable either side of it, it will not even come out of the bottom of the vest. This means the control is not vissible once the it is zipped up.
Picture to follow.

Odd. Mine has plenty of length to run it up out of the left arm and down to the waist band so I can use the control and tuck it away under the jacket.

I've taken some photos to try and clarify how they come wired.

The lead comes from the jacket near the armpit and out of the battery pocket.

18122008441.jpg

As it is, the lead itself is long enough to fall just below the hem of the vest.

18122008442.jpg

With the controller attached the length is increased. The supplied power lead from the bikes battery is quite long. So, although the lead/controller combo is just long enough so as not to get in the way swinging about off the bike, the power lead from beneath the saddle can be quite long and reach up to the jacket hem with no problem.

Now if mine came out that far all would be Aok, but it only comes out an inch or so above the pocket. Will go and give it a Bl**dy good Pull an see what happens:augie

Just been and done the deed:augie gave it a good pull and some thing went snap:eek: and out it came to about the same as the picture:D I think it must have had a stitch holding it fast. :blast all should now work...

You'd have thought that would have picked up at the factory. Good. Go and get warm:camping
