HELP.

no, its a wee round plug. ps2 according to diagram
can k/boards be locked

nope, doesnt seem to be there.
i looked inside the computer to see if there was a fuse or something, but no.
it plugs right into the big main board thing.
dya think the main boards fooked.
I did a system restore with no joy.

Take the new keyboard back Den, get them to swap it for a USB one :thumb2

Most motherboards have a small fuse on them to protect the supply to the keyboard (when connected via the PS/2 round thingwotist). If this fuse is broken, it's not generally easy to replace, being soldered on, so a USB keyboard may be the only way to go.

thanks all.
i presume the usb one goes a different route to the brain bit.
The new one was only a tenner so i threw away he reciept ......typical eh.
getting on ok with the onscreen one for the moment.

Does this help................
Customer: My new keyboard is not working.
Tech support: Are you sure it's plugged into the computer?
Customer: No. I can't get behind the computer.
Tech support: Pick up your keyboard and walk 10 paces back.
Customer: OK!
Tech support: Did the keyboard come with you?
Customer: Yes!
Tech support: That means the keyboard is not plugged in. Is there another keyboard?
Customer: Yes, there's another one here. Ah...that one does works...

That is indeed the case and most likely cause of your problem. The fuse will be a surface mount jobbie, so not obvious unless you know what you are looking for. If you are confident and compitent with a soldering iron and SMT devices they are easy to replace. I blew them all the time back in the days when I used to work developing webcams, in those days the cameras interfaced via the parallel port and leached power from the PS/2.

As everyone else has said, it will be much easier just to buy a USB keyboard though.

It has started working again. after a fortnight. Ive done nothing. Weird .
