I know I should know better as you've got the bigger flaps/penis extension on yours :D

Oh and how do you manage to carry that bench on your bike?

Years of abuse have caused it to become that strange shape. :D

The 'bench' is actually not a bench it's a emergency portable bridge and is available from Touratech catalogue page 63, it's their new inflatable all purpose adventure bridge which packs neatly into the Zega left hand pannier. It comes with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty and is designed as the ultimate global traveller 'must have' accessory - for use when crossing pirhana infested rivers, leech filled canals or traversing glacial crevasses in the Himalayas........but I use it as a bench :P

this is mine....

this is my khyam tent....
bought it last year because the motorhome was in dock
it was nicknamed the Taj Mahal by my mates on holiday
but i got it up on my own, whilst entertaining the kids at the same time.. in about an hour.....

problem is is wont fit on the back of the bike.......

i can endorse the quality and 'quick erection time'

Have to agree with Pragmatix on this one. Had my twin porch igloo for 13 very hard years, runs, rallys, race meets all over Europe in all kinds of weather and it never leaked or let me down in any way. The only reason I`m not still using it is I`ve got a new one:D
Retroman I think you`ll find that the purist walkers and climbers don`t like them simply because of the weight, about 3 times that of a lightweight backpacking tent!!! not an issue if strapped to the back of a bike.
For ease of use and durability I`ve never found a tent to beat it, and such fun watching everybody else struggling to make camp in the wind and rain when you are allready in the dry with the kettle on!:beerjug:

IFam:
I'm assuming you are talking about a Kyham tent.
Since you have a new one, any plans of disposing of the old one?
Providing is not a "Tah Mahal" but a biker size, of course...

I have a Kyham McKinley and use it for the above purpose and it is great, the best bit is the erection time (ooh-err) which is ideal for when you arrive at camp and your knackered and you just want to get the tent up and have a beer :thumb

Another very similair style Khyam tent is the BIKER.
Just a bit smaller all round, but is still supposed to accomodate 2-3.
The packed width is quite a lot smaller than McKinley at 60cm versus 84cm. having said that, 84cm is still narrower than the GS with side panniers on so probably not an issue either way. Price is a few pounds cheaper.

I opted against the biker as the lower headroom makes the tent seem a lot smaller, and having determined the packed width was equal to or less than the width of my Zega cases the McKiney became a no-brainer.

At the time though I remember finding the Biker to be more expensive than the McKinley. Good to see they now want less money for the smaller tent. :thumb

Oooops, sorry... my error.
They are still charging more for ther Biker than the McKinley (£165 versus £155).
Judge.. I think you are right.. the McKinley seems to have the edge on overall size and value.

Looking for a bigger taller tent myself, but have decided to wait and see whats on offer at the BMF. More importantly I want a bloody wider sleeping bag. Can't get out the one I have at pee time in the middle of the night. Why is it always then in the dark and after consuming numerous pints and your bursting that the bloody zip traps the lining and wont go up or down. Even worse when you cant remember where you left your glasses. :(

Well, I finally recieved the tent I ordered.
I purchased the Micropack from Eurotech, which was the first place I found which would ship to Canada.
I thought it was a little expensive, after the exchange rate it cost me a little over 500 dollars, but my curiousity got the best of me.
Any way whats done is done.
It does go up quite quick and I think it will be great for the uses I have planned for it.
I really like the size when it's packed up, doesn't take up much room at all.
Anyway just incase anyone one this side of the water was interested the total cost for me was 190.25 POUNDS.
If you looked harder I think you could find it cheaper

Was good to hear everyones opinions
Thanks

How much bigger do you need lardy? You can get bag extenders which'll give you an extra 20CM width. Either that or get another mummy bag with opposite side opening and twin them together. I do this with my warm bags. In the warm months I have this...

Just found one in my local quatermasters store. They call it Kingsize and it looks just what I 'm after. 2-3 season and enough room to get Sue in also. Hmmm.

Kin'ell, just checked out the price of the TT teepee tent. £1257.00
Sounds too expensive for that Mark. Get one from the BMF and spend the change on a 2610. Promise not to tell your missis if you get the first round.

Went into Camping World over at the Frensham Garden centre.
They have the Khyam Biker at £145 and the McKinley at £135.

The Camping World website just gives addresses not other content but the store is quite good with a good range of tents and equipment.

I received my Mckinley last week and what a pleasure to erect, fast smooth and without effort. Question though - how the feck do you get the thing down and in the bag again

I have a feeling the above can produce strange answers.....

Take down the porch and push the excess into the main body of the tent. Coolapse poles of main tent, one by one and gather them up in the middle. Lay the gathered-up poles on their side. You'll probably find you have a bulk of tent at one end. Spread this along the length of the poles and roll the tent up.

It never looks pretty but the bag is plenty big enough to accomodate a bolloxed packing :D

Just make sure when you take it out again none of the poles are twisted or any tent caught up in the joins :thumb

See, even though you tempted me I deliver a faultless piss-take free response
