I don't know if it's the same brand but Madmountainman uses one......it's certainly provided some good shelter for multiple GSer's in the past and big though it is, he fits it on his bike somehow.

Not sure it's very practical for the bike though TBH.....I've not seen Richie use a groundsheet but I don't like the idea of not having the fitted base in case it piddles down....teepees are fun but not if you're sitting in an inch of water :)

And they're bleedin expensive as well aren't they?????

Thanks Fanum, its the lack of built in groundsheet that concerns me too, and the price
Just spent the w/end in a 'millets' tipi which was brilliant, but wouldnt use it in crap weather. A couple of people have mentioned the kifaru to me for serious camping and I just wondered if any of you guys have any practical experience of using them through the winter. I'm guessing they fold up small with only having the one pole. :nenau

Me and Burton looked at one of the TP's that Travel Dri were selling at the BMF.

The bigest drawback (apart from the price) we could see was if it was raining and you opened the flap to get in or out then rain would land inside the tent. Even having the flap open to peer out into the gloom as you do when camping in the rain would leave you with a puddle in the tent :nenau

I've got a wolfcamper 8 man tipi. It comes with an inner tent which is pegged down inside the main tent and suspended from the pole. Used it for two weeks round Norway last year and it was bloody brilliant. Torrential rain whilst in Oslo too and the only issue I had was where the tie backs are sewn through the seams and dripped through onto the inner tent. As for water dripping in when looking out at the rain, it's quite a valid concern but it doesn't fall near the inner tent. the door is sewn down one side rather than along the top so you can't create a little porch which can be annoying.

It's supposed to sleep 4 in the inner tent but I'd probably find it uncomfortable with 3 to be honest, I'm 6'3".

I love it. It was also at the cheap end of the tipi scale, I think 300.

Oh, it's 10Kg though but this wasn't a problem even with my girlfriend and two stacked panniers and dry bag on the bag.
