Planning on travelling down from Larne to Killarney to meet up with mates at Bikefest end of May.
Any suggestions for best route to get there (not quickest) trying to avoid motorways, also, if anyone has any experience of the festival, I would be interested. I know it is primarily for Harley riders, but it looks like it might be a good craic.

Been there a few times and won't be ever going again. Craic is not a word I would associate with it. Personally I wouldn't bother going unless I had a Harley and wanted to meet like minded people.
Great part of the world though for spins.

Bikefest is what you make of it, took a break 2 years ago and went to the Gallagher fest in Ballyshannon, bad mistake, mucho drunken louts and not a lot to do with good music, trick with Bikefest is to get with one or two friends, turn left into the gap of Dunloe and get lost around Glencar, Black Valley, do a few of the mountain passes or head over to the Dingle peninsula and do Slea head, plenty time for beer when you return, 3 days at any event without a break would do my head in, daytime for rideouts, party at night

Here's a trip you shouldn't miss

Cheers for the feedback, doesn't sound like a worthwhile trip fm what you say

Been to the bike fest twice, once on 1100gs and once on the Harley, had a good time, its what you make of it! good places to see. ring of kerry, dingle etc, try it and make your own mind up.

Great road :thumb

But on a cruiser ?? :rob
I've been known to take the Guzzi down roads like that.
Sure it requires more ... ahem, 'Rider Input' :augie :eek but it's a lotta fun! :bounce1
... and i dont think i've held anyone up behind me. :toungincheek :D

I'd use the motorway/dual carriageway from Larne to Dundalk, then on to the R (rural) roads going south, I'd miss out Limerick and make my way along the Blackwater into Killarney. Lot of small towns, plenty of eating and petrol stops and a mix of scenery.
Return trip could be through Limerick, Nenagh, Birr, Tullamore and you'd be back on the route you came down on.

Have a look here

Damn right Jockser, we take our tractors to the limit which is a little bit worse than these roads

Went to bikefest on a Ducati once with 3 friends who were on Suzukis the night life was very good and the roads and scenery I are always amazing
The highlight for me was when a Harley head said to me "you may have a Ducati but it's not a 916"

Still trying to figure that one out

I could never figure the Harley thing - figuring the owners & what lights their fire is another thing. I'm not poking fun or disdain at them just saying I don't get glorifying a bike that can't capitalise on a twisty bit of Tarmac

All that is said about having a spin in Kerry is true but Kerry is open all year - not just when their is a "fringe" event in Killarney.

Whatever floats your boat, never wanted a Harley back in the day but have 50,000 enjoyable kilometers on mine since Paddy's day in 2009 when I got it, one of the most reliable enjoyable touring bikes ive had, have done up to 500 miles in a single day and its about the only bike ive had that I step off from without having a pain in my arse
Twisties, the older I get, the slower I ride, happy plodding along at between 95 and 105 kmh on the Harley or the Explorer, if people dont like my bike so what, much more interested in putting my energy into the next 9 or 10,000km trip im planning, behave now Gerry or I wont be getting you that "well deserved pint" in Athlone in a few weeks

What its all about, be it on an Adv GS, a Harley or a 225 Serow
