T-boned a nissan who pulled across me to enter the garage that was on my side of the road. Stood up, hit him at about 70kpm, cleared the car and supermanned it for 15 odd metres up the wet and dark road. Bike (to use Joe Duffys description) like a banana, anyway gardai came, they saw, they took details, said it was a civil matter and buggered off.

Do they not do any breath tests at serious rta's as the norm?
Also any experience's and tips dealing with insurance people who have admitted liability, would be grately appreciated!

cheers!

Sorry to hear that Paddy,
Hope you are still in one piece.
Did the guards not even get you an ambulance?

Sorry I don't know much bout insurance, i'm sure somebody on here will know and be along shortly...

I don't know who called the ambulance, wasn't the guards!
Yeah, no broken bones, bruised thigh where I'd say the handlebar caught me when wheel turned on impact and I took off, and a sprained ankle!

Shouldn't really be here, have had a few tumbles over the years, but that one was rough!

Had just bought new pair of Rukka trousers that day, was going to buy cheaper pair but opted not to, thank christ!

I see your a meath man, you probably know the Texaco on the N2?

always seek legal advice it helps to keep it straight as people can change their story when they talk to people and end up trying to blame you.
get duffys to do out a report plus costings, also make sure you have the name of the guard who attended.
you should also be claiming for new gear as once it has been involved in an acident the stiching could be damaged or fractured helmet.
Never nice to be down.:

:eek::eek: That's not good Paddy, but at least you came out of it relatively unscathed.

As Socket says, a full report from JD and estimates from clothing retailers for the cost of replacing all your gear.

Where on the N2 did it happen?

Cheers socket never really thought about stitching angle on gear was going to let jacket slide (excuse pun) as it was wet and bugger all friction so jacket not damaged, trousers took a bit more of a hammering though.

Joe D showed me the estimate for parts only for the assesor that came to €14,000 and no didn't add an 0 by mistake, and that was before they checked engine! They reckoned it was the worst they had ever seen.

Texaco was just up from coolquay lodge, fairly straight stretch, guy says, wait for it, yes "I just didn't see you" aarrggh!!

Appreciate all input, and if anybody would like flying lessons give me a shout!

Sorry to hear about your accident. The most important thing is that your OK. I know that stretch of road even though it is straight there are allot of accidents on it. Dealing with all the bull after an accident is soul destroying

At least you came out of it to tell the tale unfortunetly it is happening more and more.Cage drivers have little regard for bike users:mad:.Glad all is well.

Good to hear you are relativly OK after a spill like that.

In relation to Insurance company. Get receipts for everything in relation to travel arrangements as a result of having no bike i.e. taxis, vehicle rental whatever and also any loss of earnings or extra time spent ravelling to and from work.

A mate of mine who was recently involved in an accident was given this advice by Quinn:eek: simply because the person who hit was insured elsewhere so they were making sure he screwed for everything.

Bad news about the bike Paddy but good that you're (relatively) unscathed :thumb

Sounds like a nice shiney 2010 GS to me :aidan

I wish, just had asessor on to me offering me 75% of what I paid for the bike 4 months ago, told him to throw away fisher price calculator and go back to drawing board!

Insurance company seem fairly sound, although they haven't seen my xmas list yet, they are sending me over a car however for the week until I get sorted!

Thanks for all kind comments folks...:thumb2

Glad to see you were relatively unscathed. Once you're airborne it's in God's hands. I have much experience in dealing with Insurance etc. having demolished a GS, an SUV and both arms in very similar circumstances to yours.

PM if you you want my number, I'm happy to provide a few pointers...

Cheers for that, just gonna see what the asessor comes back with!
Its interesting to watch, he saying JD agrees with the figure he arrived at, yet when I spoke to them there saying "it was trade figures" they were discussing! No good to me!

Now I know they are dear, paid 10K about 4 mths ago for 06 GS 32k on clock,
don't think 7.5k is right for current value!

Unfortunately the market is all over the place at the moment. Bikes are worth what the seller can get for them. There's an 06 1200GS in Cork with 42K on the clock for 7,250 and an 06 adventure for 10K. Not that easy to value an individual bike. Stick to your guns and see what happens.

what you want is independant witnesses
any cc tv coverage advertise if anybody saw what happened
next get a good solicitor who is going to get you some decent compo
did you visit the doctors or hospital
log all ref numbers if so write your statement now whilst still fresh in your mind

glad you ok

Sorted

just a wee update on insurance situation, stuck to my guns with them and they eventually gave me what I paid for the bike + all my gear and threw in an extra grand for the inconvenience.

Got the cheques last Monday, the asessor was hagling a bit but the woman who was handling the claim was sound, she made up the difference with the pre accident value etc.

Was obviously scouring the bike buyers guide and the net for a replacement, found two identical bikes a 07 adventure one with boxes and 10k on clock in Cork, the other no boxes and 20k+ in JD's the other difference was €2000, so needless to say jumped on a €50 Ryanair flight to Cork yesterday morning 9am arrived at Kearys BMW kitted out with new helmet and jacket bought at NEC last week with my son of 8 years ( who had his first taste of motocycling on a small suzuki at their test circuit, mother not impressed!!)

Wrote them a personal cheque, they threw in a disk lock and I was off, nice lads very helpful, had everything organised!

Headed for Mayo to see ex's father who was taken in to hospital with burst appendix (I know any excuse to test out new toy, no really I was concerned!)
Arrived at hospital and this is where the day went a little pear shaped, pulling in saw about 10-15 people outside main entrance having a smoke, mostly of the female variety, pulled up near the door and decided to park my new pride and joy off the road just on the pedestrian area slightly, this involved a bit of a u turn negotiating some 2ft high bollards at low speed!. I'm obviously better at negotiating with insurance companies because yes my worst nightmare, made a complete hames of it and I dropped the bloody thing, I looked like a kid who's dad had just let go of the back of the bike thinking his son has finally mastered the art of cycling!

Didn't even look over to see who was wetting themselves with laughter, I know...... anyway to make matters worse I had pulled in before arriving to fill up with juice, so she's lovely and heavy, do ya think I could feckin lift it, now I'm not a small fella but either the embarassment or because I thought if I got it up really quickly nobody would notice flurry took it out of me, I don't know! anyway steadied myself and gave it another shot and got it up, did the obligitory confused look under and around the machine as if to say what mechanical failure happened there:augie .......... nothing it was the tit driving, end of!!!

Ego restored, drove back to Dublin today, love the machine, hope to stay on it a bit longer than the last one............

Congrats Paddy. Well may she wear :thumb2

At least you've got the first 'drop' out of the way, now you can enjoy riding it without the worry ;)

Interesting day for biking yesterday, wasn't it  Aidan & I were out doing a wee recce for the MMMMT event and we'd a lot of fog & very low temperatures, mostly between 0 & 3 degrees, but at least it kept a lot of other people indoors.

Jaysus, I thought the same till I got to longford and met over a hundred guys on the toy run for mullingar hospital!

Yeah! nice to get drop out of the way, but christ it's mortifying!

If there are any decals or labels needed for MMMMT event I'd be happy to organise FOC (in the sign game).
Also, any other recce's or jaunts going give me a shout, only looking for excuses for spins now, cheers!

Paddy
