Klim Carlsbad recommended?

I’m an XL in Alpinestars but The Carlsbad I wear is an L. Best jacket I’ve owned, totally waterproof. You’ll need to layer up for winter riding, but it’ll basically do spring/autumn and summer if it doesn’t get really hot.

Brilliant jacket. I have had one for years. Perfect for year round riding but needs something warm under it for winter. Totally waterproof and I’ve ridden through horrendous rain in it. When it eventually wears out, I will buy another straight jacket away.

I take it on every trip but also take my mesh Klim Induction with me along with a Zephyr wind shirt plus a Scott Ergo waterproof layer. I only take one set of armour and usually swap it from the Carlsbad to the Induction on the tunnel or ferry. 👍🏻🙂 I appreciate that taking all that stuff is a bit of a luxury but with GSA panniers I easily have enough room.

All are absolutely fantastic bits of kit and allow for riding in any weather that you encounter from Yorkshire down to the southern Spanish coast! That said, it was the Carlsbad that I wore through Death Valley so it must be alright when it’s extremely hot!!! 🥵

Obviously it’s expensive to shell out for all three!

I know there are conflicting views but having used laminated kit in warm climates, I wouldn’t do it again.

I rode to Beijing in a Badlands. It was great across Tibet in the snow and sleet. It was a total liability across the deserts of the ‘Stans and western China - and I suspect the Badlands is about as well vented as anything you can get.

Not only do you get hot and bothered in a laminated suit, it’s amazing how quickly a laminated suit gets very, very smelly.

Other than cold, wet climates, now I’m with the chap in the cap. Layers built around a vented/breathable outfit and a rain suit when necessary…
The chap in the cap at Motolegends would’ve told you to….
