Here is a pic of a exhaust thread i repaired recently....Machined the head down on the mill...Turned and screwcut the new piece out of brass on the lathe...Then shurnk it onto the head and just to make sure put 3 grubscrews in to the join

Did you put a thread on the outside of the stub after you machined it to take the brass sleeve?

Excellant engineering..especially getting the shrink tolerances just right

Very nice, once mine returns I'll stick a piccie on too, be interesting to compare...want to cmpare costs ? Just to make me feel worse later this week

It should not pick up anymore ally on brass ...The sleeve is a shrink fit on the head not screwed on... It will only get tighter when it heats up because ally expands more than brass...As for cost i did it myself so only the time...Another mod i did a couple of years ago to my r80g/s was to machine the valve guides and fit proper valve stem seals...Last year on a trip to Slovenia i did over 3500 miles....Changed the oil before i left on the max mark....3500 miles later was still within 2 mm of the max mark..So they don't all use oil !
