Knackered threads - exhaust nuts

Here is a pic of a exhaust thread i repaired recently....Machined the head down on the mill...Turned and screwcut the new piece out of brass on the lathe...Then shurnk it onto the head and just to make sure put 3 grubscrews in to the join

Did you put a thread on the outside of the stub after you machined it to take the brass sleeve?

It should not pick up anymore ally on brass :thumb ...The sleeve is a shrink fit on the head not screwed on... It will only get tighter when it heats up because ally expands more than brass...As for cost i did it myself so only the time...Another mod i did a couple of years ago to my r80g/s was to machine the valve guides and fit proper valve stem seals...Last year on a trip to Slovenia i did over 3500 miles....Changed the oil before i left on the max mark....3500 miles later was still within 2 mm of the max mark..So they don't all use oil ! :clap
