Well I was game for a laugh on a beginner's track session at Knockhill today but unfortunately they had to cancel it as you could hardly see 50 yards along the straight. Around half a dozen hardy souls showed up, including one lass with a bike on a trailer. Maybe another day.

I count myself a novice as it's about 8 years since I last took a spin round there. I was keen to see what I could do with the GS on Tourances.

Would it be possible to book the track for GS type bikes?

Any idea of the cost ,how many people would be needed?

If I remember correctly it was about 6k for exclusive hire off the track which included marshalling and medical cover. That was a few years ago so I will probably be totally wrong. you could always phone and ask.

The only time I've taken a GS round there I managed to get past a GSXR1000 round the outside onto the Railway Straight. He got me back under brakes into Taylor's though.

Actually that's not true - there was a very odd low speed bimble around there one night with the weather not too far removed from tonight, in a convoy led by Niall Mackenzie, in aid of Fife Safety Camera Partnership.....:augie:

Knockhill in a car over the years I did some marshalling was a huge amount of fun, never done it on the bike, it must be good....:JB

IAM ran a skills day at Knockhill in june and have organised another in September. Check out their web site for details. It is open to non members. If you are looking for a challenge try it on knobblies!

Am I not right in thinking that you only get on the track with leathers on?

That will rule out the majority of BMW Twatsuit/Aerotwat Roadster wearers...

I have done about 30 car track days at Knockhill but only been around it once on a bike. That was about 35 years ago on a BMW R60/5 when marshalling with Loch Lomand Motorcycling Club, and only one lap at relatively slow speed. Would like to have a couple of laps around it on the GS just to see what it was like.

Ducati Glasgow organise about 6 evenings every year at Knockhill, some are novice only, some are Ducati only, others are open to anyone. 2 hours track time @ £70. This does include a certain amount of instruction.

Looking at Knockhills site, it's £175 for a day, but it looks like it's turn up, have a thrash, fall off, call a mate with a van. There are several variations though

Done a track evening with duffus motorcycles a few weeks ago, was 60 quid for four 15 minute sessions an a free bbq after.
Sure i heard that duffus was around 2k to hire the track for 3 hours...

An evening session exclusive costs around £2500. You also require ACU gold stamped helmet; full leathers or 2 piece leathers that zip together; also be aware if there's a crash that spills fluid, etc it's your time that's being used.

Twice I've been there I hired leathers from the track store. I don't know if they come in Garfield sizes though.

I'm one of the textile jacket fans but wanted to do a novice session - on the GS, just for fun - phoned Knockhill last week who said they no longer hired out leathers :(

What size are you.....? :augie

Even Knockhill didn't ask that.........

Depends what is being measured :augie

Let's put it this way - if you can insinuate yourself into a set of 40" chest leathers and are no more than 5' 9", I could probably help you out.

However, if you're fat bastard size or overly tall, you're on your own...:)
