I did some offroading yesterday and the engine got rather hot after getting stuck in mud.

The temp gauge was between the 1/2 to 2/3 region so nothing I would have thought terminal, however the red triangle came on with no other warning, the engine occasionally had a loud piston "knock" and twice the battery couldn't turn the engine over properly when it had stalled (I have an Odessy battery so no issue here).

Is this normal, cause I can't remember the 1150 doing this when it got hot?

Had the same symptoms you describe (no red triangle though - overheating?) after getting stuck in a bog last year. Done about 15k since with no apparent ill effects to the engine (it was i think the cause of my clutch dying at 20k :blast).

I put the 'Knock' down to preignition due to the temperature of the engine, it happened when i first opened the throttle a couple of times.

Cool Stu cheers for that. Pre-ignition that'll be it :blast

Was worried when the battery had trouble turning it over though. Ahh well it rides on fine. :thumb2
