Anyone of you fine gentlemen experienced “knocking taping” through the shaftdrive ?:nenau

Could be many things - angle you have the driveline at when you are turning the wheel, bearings in final drive, bearings in UJ joints, lack of lube on UJ, warp in the shaft (unlikely).

Put it on the centre stand and then try to jack up the final drive so the shaft is more level to the output shaft (make sure you use a cloth to protect the paintwork) and then spin the wheel to see if the "knocking" is still there. May go away when in the usual riding geometry - this might save an strip down. If the knocking is still there dig a bit deeper.

By the way dont mention greasing shafts round here the "grease police" will be around any time soon!

Before we go any further,

1) Have your been reading threads on splines greasing / rusty/ or otherwise

2) The LC varients now have 72 months of manufacturing behind them
thats a 1 in 72 chance that we can work out when your bike was made / and what if, any changes have been made to your bike ;)
give us a fighting chance ;) adding the model year gets it down to 1 in 12 and the month of manufacture down to 1 in 1
3) When are you feeling this knocking /tapping static at speed what gear etc etc ;)

Hi 1127Kat
Not sure if you've sorted your drive shaft problem, I rebuilt mine, the rear splines stripped and I was left with no drive! I bought a 2nd hand shaft but the U joints were a notchy, so I located a guy in Europe, around ÂŁ30 odd for new U Joints, fitted them and got them spot welded as advised, sorted now, a new shaft is in the region of ÂŁ650!
Cheers
Mick
