The latest edition of Tourenfahrer has quite a nice suggestion for a two day (possibly one) circular jaunt, based on Koblenz.

Taking the scenic route, Koblenz is only 380 miles (ie. a day or two) from Calais or just 280 miles from Rotterdam, again a day or at most two. Want a non-motorways, reasonably direct route? Kurviger or Google’s map will show you the way:

Then enjoy two days in and around Koblenz and come home. Six days (or seven if you have a day off) plus a bit in the UK to get you to / from your port on mainland Europe, don’t forget.

Create the Koblenz route by copying it from the excellent (free) map on Tourenfahrer’s website, which translates well using any of the free tools available on most Google searches. Or invest a couple of euro to download the GPX file:

Want to know what to do on your day off in Koblenz? Ask AI / Google:

AI Overview

In Koblenz, you can visit the historical Deutsches Eck (German Corner), take a cable car to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress for stunning views, explore the charming Old Town, see the Basilica of St. Castor, and admire Schloss Stolzenfels. Enjoy a Rhine or Moselle river cruise to see the castles and landscapes, discover the city's history at the Historiensäule, and take photos with the Schangelbrunnen statue in the Old Town

Want to know where to stay in Koblenz? Try the suggestions in the Tourenfahrer article (one can safely assume they are ‘biker friendly’) or ask Google, which suggests that there are no less than 915 of them. They can’t all be crap and / or have a landlord who throws stones at you, not least as there is a better than evens chance that you’ll not be the first bod to appear on a motorcycle:

A pretty decent holiday, with very little effort required.

Planning a trip next spring, but by train. We are aiming to take the Eurostar to Lille, then trains to Koln, Koblenz along the Rhine valley to Frankfurt aM, thence Paris and back via Eurostar. I’m sure a similar route would work well on a bike.

It’s always galling having to get the Javelin to St P, and then travelling back down the same track to get to Folkestone and the tunnel. We can’t quite see our house from the train, but we can see our nearest church… There are moves to re-open Ashford International, but I’m not holding my breath.

There’s a fellow enjoying a good holiday by train, in the the current trip reports:

It’s a pretty good way to see parts (or lots) of a large country, without getting soaked (or boiled) on a motorcycle.

I might be having a 2 nighter in Sedan on the first weekend in May next year to attend a function with UKRM, if a certain Cab pulls his finger out.
I have already decided to extend the weekend for a few days as it is a lot of effort for just a boozy weekend. Already identified a hotel in Sankt Goar with bike parking and overlooking the Rhine. https://maps.app.goo.gl/eGhwvrcLUifs7JXg9 - take a room without a river view and the rooms are very cheap. Prices double for one with a river view and balcony. I've settled for mid price, river view, no balcony. Bike garage too. 3 nights and a train into Koblenz is on the cards for one day. That gives a full day to maybe explore at least some of this route.

The route has some sort of theme, crossing bridges and (presumably) rivers.
