Morning All,

Anyone tried one of these?

Foolishly wrote my 4 month old GSA off (myself and partner almost suffered the same fate - but we did get a lift to the hospital in helicopters!) whilst on day 2 of 21 day tour to Italy.

Over next couple months whilst bones heal have time to contemplate how fortunate we were and a possible replacement for the GSA - providing everything mends correctly. Think I fancy a change from the German's offerings (especially their shoddy after sales and mediocre servicing) so am thinking of going orange.

Hence the question.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope you both have a full and speedy recovery and are back riding soon.

I tried the 1290 I wrote it up here

Its a great bike and I don't think you would be disappointed. If I wasn't such a massive fan of the GSA it would be a serious contender.

I tried the SA 1290 and it strangely left me cold, and I've got orange blood, having owned well over a dozen different KTMs over the years.Perhaps I should try it again, but then at £16k without luggage........

it's what i'd buy.

luggage is still shit though.

its what I bought.....just coming up to first service at 600 miles....really enjoying the bike.......the luggage is, as you so rightly and correctly point out, shit:blast
its clunky to use and sooooo wide...as for the chain drive, still in denial sort of, expect the full horror will strike when it needs adjusting or cleaning, funny, always thought ktms were as well made and as fit for purpose as a chocolate teapot, this model and the 1190s seem well put together though,:D

it strangely left me cold,........

my thoughts when I jumped back on the gs, and if bm were not contributing to my XR, I'd be having the 1290 if it was my own money, I loved the engine, full of character, the electronic suspension package made a real difference that I could feel especially the anti dive feature, the esa on the gs doesn't, it's just hard ! I really wanted not to like it but instead I was overwhelmed by the whole package, it will probably be my nxt purchase (with my own cash) .

only adjusted mine once, and that was only cos it was wrong as delivered.

don't use sticky gungey lube and it won't need much cleaning.

The GSA has sticky out engines, which gives you far better leg protection than the KTM. Is there any chance that this has minimised your injuries ?

My 1290 should be delivered next week so obviously it was my choice.
Yes the plastic luggage is horrible and doesn't seem to work well. There is a metal luggage set though that actually looks good value but I will be putting my Jesse stuff on it.
