KTM 950/990 Adventure vs F800GS

KTM 990 Adv to F800GS

Just wondering if anyone had made the switch. I've had the KTM for 18 months and to be honest I'm not entirely happy with it for a few reasons including. The throttle is snatchy even after a new throttle cam. The range on a tank of fuel is pretty poor. The seat is a killer after a small distance. Unless you are an Olympic wrestler or have a friend on hand its nearly impossible to get the bike on the centre stand when luggage is on the bike as its too damn high.
I've got a test ride booked on an 800 in a couple of weeks and I suppose want some sort of reassurance that I'm not wasting my time and that if I do change I'm not gonna regret it.

Have tried both ,the EFI is better on the GS and its pretty quick and the brakes felt more immediate. The KTM's seem to vary a lot ,remapping and Akros with a 16 front sprocket seems to be the way to go ,you can get used to the throttle ,but its why I sold my 990SM :blast

Hi Mike

I have ridden the 990ADV on the KTM day my local dealer puts on, I never found the throttle snatchy just very light if that makes sense. perhaps they had tweaked the bikes a little.

I was keen to get one but was not offered a good P/X for my 1150ADV so took my business else where and ended up with a 800GS which I am very happy with.

you are doing the right thing to take one for a test ride, couple of hours I would suggest

good luck

Tim
