KTM 990 or big GS?

I've had a bash on a TDM too - it's all I would need for rough East European roads and tracks but....I do a fair bit of two up. My ZX6R isn't powerful enough so a TDM certainly won't be. Because of that, the only Jap bikes that suit are things like a VStrom DL1000.
......bugger just seen a nice pic of the KTM in matt grey and black....it's sooooooo pretty!!

KTM..?

Have you seen a KTM 950 R, it's sooo beautiful looking, pure off road style, awesome!

I would love to take one out on test ride, there is only one KTM dealer here in Northern Ireland.

enjoy.....

Final Drive?

Just take a look around the back wheel area and you will find a big clue? Especialy if your going to be doing a lot of 2 up touring, KTM, youve missed the boat:blast

05 R1150 Adv.......

No, not really. In 10k miles with a Scottoiler, the chain needed adjusting once; an 1150 would have needed a final drive oil change at 6k. As to its relevance to 2-up touring, the chain vs shaft issue is irrelevant.

Why ?

It does seem strange that everybody here worries about KTM reliablity !!!

Just because some GS's are unreliable doesn't make every bike the same.

I've owned 9 KTMs so far and in over 12 years I've had 1 clutch cable go and 1 head gasket partly fail-that's it.Nothing else.

So don't believe all the bollox you read here, usually by those who have never even sat on a KTM.KTM's are not unreliable.

If you want unreliabilty, stick with a GS !!

Despite going for the BMW I can't fault KTM for reliability, in the past few years we have owned:

2 x SX 85's
1 x SX 125
1 x SXF 250
2 x 200 EXC
2 x 450 EXC
1 x 125 EXC
1 x 990 Adventure

Over and above normal maintenance on the boys MX bikes we had one engine blow on an SX 85 (rider abuse) ~ we have had no trouble at all with any of the others, which have been raced, rallied, beach raced and generally abused. I personally can't fault KTM
