KTM are Toast ?

They've been in some sort of partnership since 2017 and helping out since 2013

The Partnership: More Than Just a Handshake

The collaboration between CFMOTO and KTM began in 2013 when CFMOTO started assembling certain KTM models for the Chinese market. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that the partnership truly blossomed into something more significant.

Key Aspects of the Partnership:

  1. Joint Venture: In 2017, CFMOTO and KTM established a joint venture company in China, with CFMOTO holding 51% and KTM 49% of the shares.
  2. Manufacturing Collaboration: The joint venture includes a new manufacturing facility in China, producing both KTM and CFMOTO motorcycles.
  3. Technology Sharing: KTM has shared some of its engine technology and design expertise with CFMOTO, elevating the Chinese brand’s technical capabilities.
  4. Market Access: The partnership allows KTM to expand its presence in the Chinese market, while CFMOTO gains access to KTM’s advanced technology and global distribution network.
  5. Product Development: Both companies collaborate on developing new models, combining KTM’s technical prowess with CFMOTO’s manufacturing efficiency.

That's the best video KTM have posted in ages. I actually made it all the way through to the end. :D

This from Facebook: "Well it looks like I’m keeping my 1290 for another year as KTM have said there are no 1390 SAS until Qtr 4 25."

Potential fire sale of stock... shame most the bikes I'm interested in have already gone on the 20% deal.

If there is a fire sale it will have a detrimental effect on the motorcycle market. Second hand values will take a hit as will pcp deals as the future guaranteed values will have to be looked at. Anyone buying will be taking a chance on warranty. There’s not a lot of buyers out there with the full unrestricted license and generally the market is contracting. I wish everyone employees and dealers well but having a years inventory to hand seems to be a bit excessive especially if parts suppliers expect to be paid monthly and employees too. JJH

I would expect a lot more of the stockpile of 265,000 bikes to be released to dealers world wide including the UK and so many more may turn up over the next month or so.

Complicated by not being able to sell Euro 5 bikes in Europe after the 1st of Jan which effects the 1290's if not already registered.

I can’t see a way forward for then with such a huge stockpile
What were they thinking ?

I am sure there will be a way forward but it will without a doubt be very painful for the creditors and the workforce in Austria :(

Basically it means pretty much mothballing production of all models they have an excessive supply of until the stockpile of surplus bikes has been sold.

Cannot see a 1390 Super Adventure hitting the showrooms in 2025.

So - a second hand 1290 is on my shopping list at the mo as it’s a lot of bike second hand for sub £10k….I’ve seen 22 MY for around £9k and tracking a 2022 1290R that’s £10k…

Would you ???

I can’t see a come back, they had this coming they hurt sales and damaged the brand by selling at rrp and months later sell @ £3k less, this ain’t good for longevity and after doing so for many years it’s caught up with them.

Now they want to have a fire sale with no guarantee of there future or the warranty on purchased bikes in the sale, I can’t see how they can actually value their stock with so many variables unless they give them away, especially as there future will still be questionable, I guess current owners will be happy if ktm can ride this out even if it effects residuals because the alternative is your ktm will be worth fk all if not.

The thing is I’m their target market.

I’m solvent and like to buy bikes. Had a bunch of KTMs, road and off road. I loved them all until the last one ( my second 1290 GT) which was plagued with problems. Left me stranded. Put me in limp mode on bike holidays. Constant sensors failing. I had it from new. So I’ve walked away from the brand. How on earth do they get people like me back? When they work they are fabulous bikes, if I could see the future and KNOW it’d be reliable I’d be at the dealers tomorrow morning, but right now, I won’t get another one. And that’s a damn shame.

Perhaps, if like Ducati, someone like Audi buy them and get the quality back, I may be tempted, but I don’t see it.

Cheers

And how about buying what looks like a pre registered sheer bargain right now - throwing £12k at them for a 1290, only for them to go pop in 3 months time, cease to exist and you have a bike with no warranty, no backup or spares and several sensor/electrical/faults/ gremlins ?

That’s just become a very expensive garden ornament that even the most competent home mechanics have no chance of resolving in my view.

Worse - I can’t see the business case for any of the car companies to bail them out right now. They have their own EV / ICE global crises to manage at the moment.

I think they are toast.
A Chinese co will buy the name.

How could anyone buy KTM with such a big financial hole? Even if the books were good with a year of stock in the warehouse essentially they don’t need any employees for a year. Well maybe a skeleton staff for moving stuff around for the delivery trucks. Here’s another thing. What dealership is going to sell KTM if they go bust? Essentially they will be on the hook for warranty without the backing of KTM. I know it wasn’t great anyway but the buck stops at the dealer. Why would a white knight pump money into such a bottomless pit? One thing puzzles me. Just how did this get this far? Who kept handing out the cash to keep the wheels turning? And who was responsible for the figures that were presented to the banks? There seems to be a bit more than incompetence going on here. JJH

Wait
My guess is they’ll fall even further and a new 24 1290R for less than £10k soon
2-4 year old ones will be £5-7k tops
There is some way to drop as the drama unfolds
