KTM good and bad please

If the RT is a tad heavy, why not the obvious sideways move to an RS1200/1250? Fit bar risers and luggage and off you go. I find mine the ideal compromise between an everyday ride and capable touring machine but feels lighter to handle than an RT and thankfully not as wide as a bus. I've owned a KTM but found it was too compromised in seat height and comfort on longer runs, vibes were intrusive and reliability so-so. Fuelling doesn't seem great without some degree of re-mapping either. A mate of mine had an SMT which he regularly toured on but he got fed up with it after a few years due to the frankly awful seat and needed to get it remapped to fuel properly.

KTM have moved on somewhat since the last 990SMT 😉
Their early fuel injection was not great (had a 990 Superduke) but modern KTM's have superb fueling 🙂

Some, perhaps but the 790/890's were known for being over lean at idle and for issues when asked for rapid acceleration at low revs. They may well have improved lately but I've not tried a post 2020 KTM

Fair enough - not ridden a 790/890 KTM but did take out the Norden 901 (effectively the same bike) when my 701 was in for a service and fuelling was good on that as well (y)

My neighbour had a Norden and really rated it. Nice looking bike and fit/finish looked one up from the KTM is was based on tbh.

No, he still has it but he's moved now. He was an ex Triumph exec (director) and had a very special RS trumpet, a GSA and a Nord. The GSA I think was sold as he preferred the Nord. Much lighter and he reckoned more fun.

I might be selling my 2022 72 plate 890 Advent on which I’ve only done 140miles! Yes seriously.

Selling as simply not getting ridden.

Great bike for all the reasons listed above, but I keep going back to my S1000XR. Hey Ho.

I am find a warranty claim incredibly frustrating.
Condensation inside the TFT of my 890R. Claim submitted and accepted in February and still not done 4 months on.
Nobody seems to give a shit, update me, or tell me anything at all.
Always me chasing, with a reply 2 days later saying not dispatched yet.
In that time I've been in 4 times for servicing & purchases of power parts, but that doesn't seem to gain you any status whatsoever.
Just take, take, take like every other businesses in this pox ridden century.

I couldn’t work out if it was the bike or the nice German lady that would suit you?

‘Met a nice german lady in Vercors riding this 790 adv, keep looking at pic and wondering if it would suit me’

Jeez that sound like Moto Guzzi, 400 quid for a service from a main dealer who then states, 'oh we havnt got a machine mate so no updates done and cant reset the service light'

Great bike, utterly shite dealer network

A rethink I think, The RT sets a high bar and haven't found anything to match, hoping a new travel plan with minimum luggage (No topboxes) will allow another year or two touring, see how it goes, a few trips around the UK during the year and then off to Belgium in spring, and Provence later (y)

Pack light...

:D

Here is a nice KTM I saw today, can’t say where I saw 👀 it, as it’s a secret😜

3 KTM's 2,500 miles around France and Spain - nothing I would swap my 1290 R for 🙂
