KTM lower crash bars

If the bike falls over (foot slip at standstill scenario) how effective are the crash bars at saving the bodywork & lower bits of engine ?

Do you mean the 'plastic panel' things or the 'bars' (as fitted to the R) ?

In which case, yes, they are very effective

I've also dropped her a couple of times moving at low speed and same, no damage, just a scuffed up engine bar

Mine toppled on shitty hotel car park surface, small scratch on engine bar and hand guards.

Hand guards were £50 for a pair (No, you can't buy one! - but at least I have a spare if I ever drop it on the other side)

The bars also only come as a set - but you can get touch up paint, even applied with the brush that comes in the bottle cap it was easy to almost completely hide the mark, could probably get it spot on with more effort / talent on applying paint and cutting it in better.
