Am I correct in assuming that the KTM service/recovery card we were given with our shiny new 1190's only covers breakdowns and NOT accident recovery?
Just thinking about next years tours and wondering if I need to take out another recovery policy.

Correct. And pretty much the standard with all AA, Green Flag, RAC .... schemes ..

Doesn't your insurance cover accidents?

Yes, bit of a daft question really.
But the reason I was asking was because I was chatting to someone at the bike show, and he regaled a story of a tour he was on recently where a chap had an off which rendered the bike unrideable.
His recovery policy did not cover accidents and for some reason he had to pay for the recovery of the machine himself (at considerable cost). I thought it was a bit strange, hence the reason for the question- he could have had third party insurance only I suppose.

happened to a mate I was with this year , dropped his multistrada , and yes he got a £700 bill because he fell off it.
He also successfully argued not to pay it , the bike couldn't be ridden , however the little French garage told the insurers the bike was a write off and engine was knackered , they couldn't start it..

This of course was a total fabrication as its a keyless bike and they couldn't have started it , need less to say he got the bike back and argued the bill for months with the insurance company

I don't appear to have received a KTM recovery card with my new 1190. Is that something you get sent through the post from KTM or should I add it to the list to badger my dealer about?

Just ring the RAC and give them your reg. DAMHIK.

the card is literally just cardboard anyway.

I had an unfortunate incident a few years back with a bus and I got recoverd as my bike had a flat tyre.....granted it had a flat wheel as well but recovery folk were cool about it.

The plastic service card comes in the post direct from KTM.

Dave

not in my case apparently.

i do have a proper plastic card from the RAC anyway though, who operate the KTM recovery scheme.
