Well my KTM sold and I'm now in the market for a GS! I dunno weather to go for a cheapie R1100GS and keep some cash for other things. Or weather to add some cash and go for an 1150. Decisions decisions.....
At least you're getting more reliable one now, and assumably cheaper to repairs since you're in UK and now you can not drive around on Earth annually 500 miles as on KTM, but 25 000 miles on hardcore mile-eater
If i were you i'd go later 1100 than early 1150!
97-99' 1100s are bulletproof in final drives and gerbox issues mostly compared with early 1150 that some models may have final drive issues more often storys go around...
Or collect ALOT more cash and buy 2002-2004 R1150GS that should be more sorted-out GS before 1200 came out which is currently bit unreliable too on some cases (final drive again ).
Whatdya mean 'A cheapy 1100?' The 1100's are the originals and the best, they have merely dropped to a realistic price!
Buy a black one,pure class.
Biased? Me? No way,it's just a co-incidence that I've got one

Lol, no I just meant the cheapest 1100 I could find and enjoy restoring it or something? When i used to have old bikes, I enjoyed getting new panels and respraying subframes etc and genarally making the bike look like new again. With later bikes I just bolt bling on them. I kinda miss doing bikes up. Although Jim Elderfields 98 does look very nice.....
I think I'm going to go for a cheapie and see how I get on with it. If I like it and it suits me over a period of time, then I may treat myself to a 1200 next year. But everyting is hinging on the guy showing up and paying for my KTM on Sunday.
The other problem is getting the time to go and look at some. They never seem to be for sale anywhere near home! I always end upo viewing bikes miles away, then when I find one I have to get the damn train to go and get it. I was watching an 1100 on Ebay and the guy worked near me. B|rilliant I thought. Then he sold it outside of ebay!
Steptoe had one for sale and I think he's in Richmonad with isnt too far away I suppose?
