Lady Airhead GS roll call - please say hello !!

HELLO.......

I've just bought a J (1991) reg R100GS....... twin plugged and gas flowed.
It's awfully big though, and as we speak, Val H it pulling it to bits, in an effort to lower it so I can reach the ground!!!! amongst other things!!

I'm planning to alter the front though, I'm not too keen on how it looks at the moment, I want a high mud guard not a low one and I want to get rid of the very square fairing and screen and replace it with a conventional front that looks like the older bikes, I like that much better.

We have already put bar raisers on and that has made alot of difference to my posture.

I'm a little timid of it at the moment, not that I've actually ridden it yet, coz I can't reach the ground, even with one foot, and can't help feeling I may have bitten off more than I can chew!!!! but who knows, I may get on very well with it.

What I do need though is a very low single seat for it, if any of you have one kicking around give me a shout.

What I am worried about though is..... how many ladies ride these things and keep their femininity, it's a far cry from the F650gs I have been riding for the past 18 months, is it a bit 'blokey'?

The reason I bought this bike is because I want to move up to a bigger more powerfull bike, the 1150 is too heavy and the 1200 is too bulky so I hope this is going to be the in between. I couldn't afford to commit to buying a new 650 and keep up the service record and 400.00 services etc, so this seemed to be the best option, concidering Val H will be able to maintain it and save us a fortune.

Not sure if I should be amused or offended by this remark... :D
I might have a man's name, but i am certainly not a man or 'blokey'...might not be as feminine as other lady riders, but buying airhead certainly did not change that (my parent's are to blame for that..)
Don't know any other women riding an airhead, but buying my airhead was the best thing I have done so far (as far as the bikes go), it is my third one since i passed my 'big bike test' and it is the best one!

It doesnt matter what bike you are on, it is pretty obvious you are a lady. All that counts is that you are happy with it, comfy on it and that you enjoy every mile on it...

Anyway, what i dont understand is - who cares what anybody else says? This web site is full of 'tossers' anyway! :aidan

Regards,

your fellow 'tosserette'
JustStan

Well its a welcome from me then. Two so far. I know there are at least a couplke of rtw type lady travellers.. Bloomin Small.:aidan Im sure you will love it. as you say lighter than the 1150 and 1200 but more gutsy than the 650, which is a great bike. Get yer leg over it and have a go.
Justan, Well said but get yersell to Proffs do and see what a lot of real old tossers look like:D:D

Ooooops :o Be amused Stan, dont be offeded :D
Iv'e always enjoyed playing with the boys and their toys, it's much more fun and a hell of a lot scairier too, playing with dolls an skipping doesn't quite get the adrenelin flowing, nor does it challenge........ As for femininity, I've always thought you looked very feminine and cool , you just seem to look good on all the bikes you've had, I'm very envious :eyesdown

hello 2

hello fellow tossers/ettes,i have been riding for 2 and a half years now and my 92 r80gs in red is my fourth bike and by far my favourite,i am blown away at the excitment of riding her and wish i could spend far more time doing so.when i am on the road, full throttle, overtaking like the wind i just feel like part of the machine my gender doesn't come into it but when i have to manouver the bike around on the ground(specially with people watching!) i feel like a silly week woman!!! and i am just waiting to drop her one day(please god don't let this happen!) i plan to keep riding well into my old ladyhood, would like to try some off roading and to go to foreign lands.my riding partner is off the road at the moment so if any of you hairheads come llandovery way and fancy a ride out give me a shout.hopefully i can make it to the gentlemans wee-kend but i'm alittle shy!!

Elspeth Beard is an airhead rider that should be on yer list
I believe the good lady has just come back from a trip to S America trailriding
Not only is she a rider of worth, but some patience also ( Elspeth's other is Paul Blezard the bike writer and photographer who riders bikes and Quazar's )
A definate addition to the hall of fame in the Airhead section :thumb2

Hello From Cambridge

Hi to all the girls

I am female too and own a R100 GS, it took a very cut down seat and a shorter shock to reach the ground but I got their, (plus two engine changes since I bought it)

This is the largest engined bike I ever owned but not the fastest, I like big boys "toys". I have owned a few, the smallest being a 400cc but that was pumping out 56 bhp at the back wheel and a top end of 135mph. One of my currently owned bikes produces a meer 119bhp at the back wheel and a tiny 165mph. The other one is only 96 bhp but you can not win them all.
(To Kleine Blumen I understand what you mean about the feminie issue. I am a complete TOMBOY but I do finnally own two skirts, but that was after Bam Bam stopped me from leaving the shop:topic)

Bam Bam and I are just in the process of preparing for hopefully a trip accross Morocco over Christmas :beerjug:

:blast How could we forget you Lilith after reading all about your engineering issues? :o

Hello Brassmonkey001

The bike is now running with good oil pressure but the gearbox output shaft seal leaking and I have needed to replace the drivesharft as there was very slight play in the UJ at the gearbox end. But is fine for a spare in Morocco (hopefully about 22 days).
