Laminar Lip for GSA

I am sick to death with the bloody wind noise from the 2009 GSA screen - its sooooooooo loud!!

I reckon a laminar lip is the way forward or i could be wrong but i guess ive gotta take the plunge and find out?

Where is the best place to get one?
Whats the best price on one?
How easy are they to fit?
And do you reckon that this will do the trick - 6'3''

Im doing 3500 miles per month and the din off the standard screen is quite frankly, getting on my nerves and im sure is making me have ringing ears permanently - not good.

Any help appreciated.

Where is the best place to get one?

From the factory in Santa Ana. You give them a surprisingly small sum of cash and they give you a Lip. At least, that's what I did.....

However, if you're meaning here in the UK, ISTR that there's now an importer whereas there wasn't when I got mine; hence buying one in SoCal.

A doddle....the only real issue is deciding how high you want it.

And do you reckon that this will do the trick - 6'3''

It's worth a go. It made a big difference on my old 2004 GS.

I'm 6'4" - I put a Laminar Lip on my 08 GSA and it made a big difference. I bought it from heroblobs

Lamina Lip certainly works on the GSA in resolving wind noise and helmet buffeting.

Great for motorway work in winter etc.

But in town I find it a real pain as you end up looking through the screen instead of over it, and as the lip overlaps the screen you have a double, invariably dirty, screen to look through.

So it depends...

I keep meaning to modify mine with a dremmel / wing nuts etc so I can slide it up and down easily. But as this hasn't been thought through, the lip stays in my shed.

I don't trust the default method, the industrial velcro. The weak point for me was the adhesive holding the velcro pad to the screen. Must be bolted on IMHO.

I tried one, I'm 6'3" and it didn't make much difference at all for me, no matter where I placed my screen. I'm probably gonna try one of the Wunderlich adjustable ones next as they look like the mutts nuts....

Changing my lid did make a big difference though. Being a Ewan & Thingy wannabe, I ride with an enduro lid, when I switched from a hornet which has quite a solid peak, to a Carbon Uvex that has more cut outs in the peak, it improved the airflow quite a bit...

The 3M Duolock worked fine for me - all the way up to a GPS verified 122 mph. It must have been on the bike for c. 12K miles.

i had (still have got somewhere) a laminar lip.

i found it worked very well at wind protection, but i'm a PORG of 5' 11". sadly i couldn't get on with the distorted vision, which i found very disconcerting while manoeuvring close to other vehicles, so i took it off.

as to fitting, care needs to be taken. it's VERY important that the lip is sprung outwards by exactly the right amount so that the lip, and velcro pads, are precisely in parallel with the screen. if not, only part of the pads will actually be stuck properly.
tricky to do, took me two attempts to get it right, lucky laminar sent me another set of pads for little money, as i couldn't find the right ones here at the time.

if i had kept it, i would definitely have bolted it on with some SS or nylon screws and nuts.

I am 6' and the Laminar Lip on my 2008 GS Adventure did make a difference - but I am beginning to think I can improve on it.

Once fitted the 'vacuum' between me and the screen is quite large suggesting that I should fit some tobinators to let a little airflow in via the light. This small loss of air flow I suspect will reduce the turbulance over the lip and thence my head.

Also, the standard fittings are OK but I recently lost the screen on N.Yorks moors forest drive. I found that over time the screen had loosened itself just a little and the extra 'flapping' every time I hit a hole in shale caused the lip to shake itself off - this included both sides of the 3M tabs which was quite worrying - so I suggest that after wiping the screen before fitting you let it dry, then fit the tabs then leave them to 'cure' without the lip on.

The lip glued back on but at the time I thought the tabs were goosed.

I had a Laminar Lip fitted to my 06 GS for more about 15k miles. It fitted solidly using the supplied 3M Duolock. I found it very effective in reducing buffeting and wind noise, to extent that I could ride with visor up at 90+ mph. mind you I’m only a short arse 5’9”.

I still have the Lip somewhere. But I haven’t fitted it to my GSA purely because my screen is tinted and the Lip isn’t. Now if could only get it tinted to match.

I put a laminar lip on my gsa and it made no difference to wind noise at all.
so i looked at my lid and figured out that the noise for me was reduced when my visor was up so i took the plunge and got me a tour x3 thinkin the peak would do the job. and ya know what it did

I put the laminar lip on my gsa and its feckin great . I drive with a tour x and no more buffeting.. can easily drive up to 100 -110 with visor open no problem.

I agree- fitted the lip to my screen with the velcro stuff and it stayed put until it feel off when I was stopped at a set of lights...
It's now drilled and bolted on.

Guess it's all to do with how tall you are really. Although somebody at 6' could have a longer back than somebody of 6'3" making their ride position higher on the bike....

This looks good. Has anyone fitted one and does it work?

I am 6' tall and the buffetting and noise on my GS 1200 SE is not good, had a go on mates Fazer at the weekend the silence whilst riding was bliss.

Benefit with this sports screen is that its small and tinted and i think will look the part on the SE model.

Any recomendations?

Thant VARIO screen is a smaller screen to start with so don't expect much difference once the 'flip' thingy is up.

I too would like a bit more protection from an ADV screen. If I duck down 2" all is quiet. The laminar lip looks interesting but not sure about looking through two bits of plastic, especially if its raining so was looking at this

The mounting is adjustable so the extension can be lowered down out of the way when it is hot or better visibility is needed and the mounting are either side so no black 'lump' in your main field of vision like the TT option

Just need someone to tell me that they work!!
