Thinking of fitting a LL and winglets to my 07 gs-has anyone had any success with this combination to combat buffeting?

This stuff ...

... from SAENG worked so well on my 1100 that I've ordered some for the 1150 :augie

The Laminar Lip reduced the buffeting. But a later addition of the winglets made no significant difference. At least as far as I could determine.

I fitted a Laminar Lip about a week ago. Before I fitted it the airflow was directed straight at my visor with the standard GS (05) screen at maximum height.

I set the lip high on the screen as I am quite tall, and it has taken the airflow up considerably, maybe now skimming the top of my helmet. I am not sure that the lip has actually smoothed the airflow as there is still some buffeting.

I am planning to get some of the Saeng edging to try and smooth the airflow off the top edge of the screen. The lip comes with removable fixings, so once the Saeng edging is on I can try with and without lip to get a good comparison.

There are a lot of screen options for the GS and I looked at the various threads for a while before taking the plunge. If you read them all you will see that the different solutions work for some people but not for others, so it does seem to be a bit of a lottery.

Not tried the winglets.

Thanks for your imputs. At the moment I have got a touratech high and wide on the bike but get quite a lot of buffeting around my chest and shoulders also around my visor when it's up. Mrs 'Nottle' (wife) suffers more buffeting than with the original screen, so I am hoping to improve things with the above 'mods'. Trouble with this sort of thing is that you can try 'this, that and the other' and chuck a whole load of cash at the problem with little or no improvement. I also think this more of a problem for 6ft plus riders. I test rode a 08 GSA on friday and although there is no buffeting to speak of, to my body, there was still a fair amount around my head so couldn't really ride in comfort with my visor up has anyone fitted a LL to one of these screens with any success?

I was wary of the high / wide screens because of the possibility of the screen flexing and causing buffeting due to this disturbing the airflow. I thought the laminar lip design, giving a 2 piece screen would result in more stable screen than a single larger item. However, I think the screen does definitely flex more now and there is maybe more disturbed air, but at least it isn't straight at my visor any more.

With an already high & wide, maybe the Saeng edging will be a good option to smooth out the airflow. Just ordered some today.

I've never heard of SAENG. It's a new one on me. Can this possibly be the answer to buffeting and wind noise. How much does it cost and do we have to order it from America or is there a supplier in the U.K. I am getting excited:bounce1

Owen. I think I'll try the SAENG on the high and wide too, not expensive and may well improve things. However I'm riding up to inverness this summer and I'm hoping to make the trip more comfortable for my pillion, so if this doesn't do the trick I can always use the saeng + lip +winglets + (kitchen sink) on the original screen. Someone must crack this nut soon. will post results as and when. Cheers

Holy Grail ...

... or Snake Oil :nenau All I can say is it made a difference to the ride comfort on my 1100 and I've ordered some for my 1150 :bounce1

It has to be ordered from Saeng direct as I couldn't find a UK importer; they have a standard $30 (?) overseas shipping charge, but with the dollar being weak it's not too bad, and certainly cheaper than a new screen.

It's worthy of note that it works by increasing the turbulence, not smoothing it out. They claim an effective screen size increase of 4" and while I wouldn't warranty that, it does make a difference.

Some peeps have a problem with the visual obstruction as it's quite thick; however I got used to it very quickly (see pic of 1100).

Good luck :thumb

I think the idea is to break the flow from the edge of the screen with the 'micro' turbulence. With laminar flow, the air 'sticks' to the screen surface and is dragged round the edge of the screen, tending to vibrate the screen and cause large scale turbulence / buffeting. The micro swirl should give a clean and consistent break for the airflow. Works in theory .........

Just got to try it and see.

Just ordered the saeng micro strip, needed 5ft for the high and wide - comes to $94.00:eek: including shipment, better be good, fingers crossed!

Just got the Saeng edging today and put it straight onto the top and sides of the Laminar Lip.

First impression (and it is quite windy today) is that there is no noticable improvement over the laminar lip on its own. I want to try and fit it around the standard screen as well, although I am not sure that there is room between the Laminar Lip and the screen at a couple of points.

Will persevere for a while and see how it goes.
