Whilst off road on my todd in the Vosges I got the lamp F warning. No time like the present to practice the art of changing bulbs! I unscrewed the black protector cap then unclipped the clip...The plastic housing with the 2 spade connectors for the bulb were melted. And brittle. Anyone else had this? Replaced light bulb and re fitted the clip and no more lamp f -it works - but connector will need replacing. Anyone else had this happen?

Mine fell to pieces on me, after the bulb had blown, in Austria two years ago. Used a bit of duck tape to hold it together and replaced it with a fitting from Halfords oddpack range when I got back. BMWs price for a replacement part was ludicrous.

Also had the spring bulb retainer come apart (fairly common, seemingly). Self tapper and a washer sorts that.

Bm have quoted 22 pounds for the part. Did you just slot the 2 spade connectors in the new one or was it more involved? Can't remember now what it looked like as didn't want it to fall apart further.

Isn't this just an H7 bulb connector? To be fair I've not pulled mine apart to check.
They are about £3.50 a pair on eBay and no doubt sold at Maplins.

Regarding the original problem, just in case you don't know and are worried about a repeat, this was probably caused by a bad connection (e.g dirty contacts) on the connector and so if that is changed it's no more likely to happen again on your bike than on on any other.

You can buy ceramic H7 connectors for a couple of quid. They won't burn/melt/degrade like the OE plastic ones.

Came across this old post. So Updating it for all to know: No problems a year on after replacing the BMW melted plastic with a ceramic one ordered off e bay. You do need to join the new ceramic wires to the BMW Loom though as the unit comes prepared with spade connectors. But an easy job and no hassles now. Even easier changing bulbs as more wriggle room. Closing thread now
