Morning,I have the LampR notification on the display,I can confirm bulb is good(I renewed it) I have checked for the relevant live to the tail light I can confirm the tail light has voltage and does act as a brake light, however there is no voltage to the brake side circuit. That includes up to the bulb holder, and at the wiring. Any thoughts as not 100,% if it is canbus controlled with PWM or a direct voltage with sensing circuitry.

How can the tail light act as a brake light, the tail light is always on, and can't go any brighter? The brake light can act as a tail light when the tail lamp filament is blown by putting reduced power to the brake lamp filament then full power when the brake light is required.

From my reading it can do both,if the brake blows the tail will dim slightly and then brighten on brake application. This is also in the owners guide I believe. I have searched the forum and found this info but did not see any issues that mine is exhibiting.

So we have a 2007 (57) R1200GS, just pre-LED. Mileage/condition/SH?

I'm thinking possibly a corroded light unit, due to water ingress, but then I see you have had issues with the braking system previously. Perhaps you could update us with some detail.

I believe that the system will disconnect power from something which takes too much current. Have you checked for a short circuit to ground on the brake light wire/contact.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery and/or clearing any fault codes?

I think it is rear lamp related as suggested as keep getting a rear lamp code in motoscan so will pull the lamp and inspect. Will let you know what I find.

Thanks

Fault code keeps appearing so will pull the lamp to gain access to it and the wiring and will check.

I had a severely corroded rear lamp unit on mine few years back. The rear connections are extremely exposed and prone to dirt and everything that gets under the seat, possibly just that. I replaced the light unit in the end and all was fine again.
