Lanark Bike show

I was there today, not a bad wee show, it's their first year so looks promising for years to come (fingers crossed) - all depends what you're after.
.....what with the weather forecast tomorrow there's talk amongst the traders that are out in the elements that it's a fair bet that some will be gone on Sunday.....

Have to agree with Craig. "not a bad wee show". Hopefully it will grow as the years go by.
For us old buggers it was much more interesting than the Ingliston Show.

Didn't realise that there was that many old Triumph bits still available.

Forecast for today (Sunday) not to good.

was there today{sunday}It was ok but the weather was shite,They need an indoor venue for this,i felt sorry for some of the traders standing outside all day exposed to the elements.

I was there on Saturday. The weather was good, but its always cold there .

There was some interesting stuff there, particularly if, like me, you've had too many birthdays :rob.

How about this for a 'cammy' BSA Special :clap.

Or, bumping into 'Packer' on his 1968 US-Spec R60/2. :clap

DSCN9952.jpg

The bike had pride of place on the IAM stand . .

DSCN9954.jpg

Or, how about a 1200 Triumph Tiger 'Explorer' (if you fancy something heavier than my R1150 GSA :blast) -

DSCN9961.jpg

There was 'Customised' . . .

Veteran and vintage . .

Classic . .

DSCN9981.jpg

Plus some new Ducatis (why do I keep hankering for a Multistrada :drool ??).

DSCN9982.jpg

Outside there was the usual collection of Autojumble plus . .

A Trials Demonstration.

Plus some 'Classic Scrambles' :thumb.

But, for me there was one stand that was worth the £8.00 entry (well, actually £6.00 as we pre-booked :augie):

A gentleman named Paul Ingham had a stand with two absolutely fascinating bikes.

How about a Supercharged, 500cc, two stroke, four cylinder, shaft-driven, plunger-framed racer, built by hand by Dennis Jones of Derby in 1945 to take on the Senior racers of the day ???

Later in the day I saw 'Packer' drooling over it :D.

DSCN0003.jpg

Even the front brake (full-width hub) was home built. It had a lever on the end of the wheel spindle that operated a cam on the inside .

And how about this 'home-build' ?? - An 'LCH' ??

Paul writes books on motorcycle history and is something of an authority. I had a long and very interesting chat with him - before buying one of his books to add to my collection.

DSCN0012.jpg

The Jones 500 2-stroke is mentioned in the book.

DSCN0017.jpg

In similar vein . . I had a natter with "The Gorgeous Biker Chic" from Aberdeen who has just started a Tiger Cub Club (she stood behind me while I took the pics :blast).

It just so happens that I have a 'Cub' in bits that I intend to restore sometime - so I just had to join-up :augie.

So - a good little show but nothing like 'Stafford' in scale. Hopefully it will grow and become a fixture.

At least I didn't have a 10-hour round trip on the bike to get there :D.

Bob.

Great photos, what is it that I seem to miss the intresting bikes and end up with pics of LC's and KH's.
Am going to sound stupid here but is the belt drive a mod on the rocket 3 ?
My 1100 ...... what a fantastic way to travel really enjoyed the spin and the skeet around.

jeez Bob.............

magic pics. well done that man. Never knew about that show, will be there next year.
Like you the many summers under the belt are starting to be measured as winters
There were a few pics of yours with some white haired auld bugger rather prominent, could you do a photo shop to (at least) make him look nicer :P
That 'Cammy' B.S.A. is gorgeous. I always preferred the Bezza twins for looks against Tri umph or Not On, not to mention Ajay or Matchy...mmm . Mind the R.E. Connies and Interceptors are nice lookers too.
Thanks Bob,appreciated

Loved the 4 cylinder Jones 2 stoke.

The "cammy" BSA was a Rocket Three special, which was on the Triumph/BSA Triple owners stand. Great stand.

They had a BSA X-75 Hurricane, a 4 cylinder "Trident" a QUADRANT, and one of the three cylinder Triumph prototypes that I thought was just a Triumph 500cc until someone mentioned the third carb.

Not quite sure about the BM chop.....

'The "cammy" BSA was a Rocket Three special'

more A7/10 special if you ask me.
The majority of the machine came from the days of the twins methinks, so, being pedantic, i'd say it was a three cylinder A10 special:thumb

I've got a funny feeling that the 'chop' JGD606T may have started life as one of Strathclyde's finest at Helen Street...
Just a series of registrations that stick in your head sometimes.
Sumbdy will know.

was there on the saturday, great wee show, liked the modded GS with the KTM front end, the Dennis Jones bike was amazing, loved hearing the old racers,BSA,Triumphs,TZ Yamahas etc...start up, had a good run through a fair few of the border towns on the way home

liked the modded GS with the KTM front end, /QUOTE]

Did anyone get the details of the 100GS ???

DSCN9967.jpg

I should have photographed the info sheet :blast.

The 'Airhead' Section are interested in it :rob.

Arc . . You think I should 'Photoshop' a wig onto Kevan ??? :thumb :thumb

DSCN9956.jpg

I love the look of the 'Cammy' Nortons . . But I also like the sight & sound of the AMC racers (500cc Matchless G50 & 350cc AJS 7R).

DSCN9995.jpg

I try & I try - but I don't understand why anyone would buy a Triumph Rocket-3 and do this to it :nenau.

DSCN9994.jpg

Each to his own (or we'd all be riding GS' :thumb2).

However, I have a sneaking regard for one of these . . It must be something to do with my advancing years :blast:

Bob.

Bob, thanks for posting every photo I took on Saturday! I did take one of the GS spec sheet..it's an R100gs with Ktm forks and that's all it said.
It was not as good a show as the Haggis earlier in the year, too few stalls to justify the £8. Traders were complaining about the high cost and lack of organisation and as usual the weather was concerning them, the second marquee had been flooded the night before. What affect it will have on the Ayr classic at the start of June will have to be seen. Looks like the organisers want to corner the market in 'bike' shows nationwide. I see they are holding an off road bash at the same venue in December.

AHA, I thought you'd be around somewhere . . I'm sure I saw your good lady in the distance at one point :D :D

I thought I saw "Stumpy" as well, but I didn't get to speak to him :blast.

Hopefully the show will grow. Its a better time of year than the 'Haggis Bash' and the atmosphere was better than Ingliston.

Time will tell :nenau.

Bob.

Not a Bad Show

Joyce and I were through on Saturday. Show was enjoyable but a bit on the small side - but as others have said, hopefully it will grow? - but a weekend at Stafford is still a better option if you have the time.
We were speaking to Stumpy for a while - seems to be enjoying life - just not on a GS:eek:

Cheers.........................Grizzly:beerjug:
