Superb. My wife really wants to visit Japan....she'd never mentioned doing it as part of a bike tour...I really should mention it.....I'll either have a nice black eye or a hearty hug and 'Thanks darling'....
And potentially an empty wallet…..🤣🤣 Would just love to ride Japan. There is a pretty active riding community I hear especially in the north.

To @snakebasket - Your photos are brilliant. Thanks for sharing👍👍👍

Cut as requested from a trip report, so as to not derail the report.

Yup...just looked it up online....way out of my wallets league, sadly....she'll have to keep wishing...

I just checked Car Hire for the last 2 weeks of November on Booking.com and it's £400 with unlimited mileage (the last 2 weeks of March 2027 costs the same and that is the start of the amazing blossom season). They drive on the left and I found the driving standards among the best in the world when I was there, so it's easy and cheap to get around.
Plus Japan is quite cheap if you stay just outside the tourist areas, even in peak season. It's an amazing Country if you do visit.

Just had a look at Rental 819 which is a rental company with locations all over Japan and a number of colleagues have used in Tokyo.

Stuck in a random date and bike

And that works out at £112 per day , which is about 1/3 what you pay in USA !!

Can’t get a full price as you need to enter credit card info etc but can’t see bike rental bring much more than say £1800 for two weeks . If hotels are say £100 per night then that’s ‘ only ‘ £3200 compared to over £10k that the OP paid for a guided tour !
And they publish their routes anyway !!

Happy to join in if an open invite trip were proposed…. Can also rustle up some support from Japanese biker colleagues who live there…..

We could be interested...it will have to be a 'we' as I'm not actually that bothered but Mrs B most certainly is. (Not sure if looking at going as a couple puts a dampener on it for anyone?)

For me not an issue. Only thing I have found when traveling in groups where partners join is the whole issue of settling up after each overnight stop 🤣🤣🤣🤣. But that’s on another thread ….

I’m sure @Stevie4scoops would be up for it and I know
@Robbi would be too 😜

Should I ping @Robbi and ask him or will you do that ….🤣🤣🤣
Sarky tw*t…..🤣 …..Hope you’re not getting the Wappers disease….🤣🤣🤣

In all seriousness I’d be up for a 2028 trip there. Not enough experience to manage / arrange all myself.
So maybe a group of enthusiasts to get together and start planning. Maybe a small group who have experience of more exotic trips. Maybe 3 ?
Happy to help out. Advantage working for a Jap employer and having a lot of Japanese colleagues who can give me tips…
I am also with @Arsey on this one. $14k is a lot of dosh and fair enough they need to make a living but I am pretty sure with some help also from @snakebasket we should be able to set something up for half that. 👍👍👍

Over to the next opinion and let’s get it started….

First idea for the logistics:

For those who don’t know, Japan has a nationwide luggage transfer and delivery service known as Takkyubin, you can send baggage directly to and from hotels or 7 Eleven stores to save you carrying them about, it doesn’t cost much and works perfectly this being Japan, we used it on our trip this year (y)

There are also large storage lockers in airports and stations

Could be a good solution to no support van (y)

Seriously though, I’ve had a short side chat with @Arsey and this is getting some legs.

A few suggestions:

1. We will do this ourselves thereby making it much more affordable.
2. 2028 will be the date. Will review but my guess either May or September due to weather and heat.
3. 2 weeks seems reasonable excluding travel.
4. Martin and myself will try to find out some details and then post the details at a later stage
5. My suggestion would be a small group max 6 pax. That’s my max numbers if I am setting up a trip.
6. Travel will be excluded and each person needs to just get to the bike pick up on the date specified.

Will probably start already planning over the Christmas period when I have loads of time and am bored stiff of the festivities.

My guess as @Arsey we should be looking at around £200 a day ex travel and bike hire but that’s only a guesstimate.

Interested parties please ping me a DM with off line details email / phone etc then we can take it from there

Yea, I know it’s 2 years away and some of us could have popped our clogs by then but such a trip will need precise Wappers style planning😁😁😁😁

Let’s see how this goes👍👍

Thanks Grant.
I'll send a PM shortly...but...is the 6 people inclusive of pillions? If so, if both my wife and I, and Mr Leadfarmer and his Mrs attend...we're full....or is it 6 riders...and the riders are obviously responsible for their pillions?

6 riders most likely. Let’s see who really is interested and not just “yea keep me in the loop”.
Once things firm up then obviously commitment will be paramount which means booking flights etc so you can get there.
Not meaning to be a prick about this but experience shows on previous open trips and trips in general is that some expect the organizer just about to do everything for them, book all the hotels etc and then no commitment or worse pulling out at the last minute. Yes I have had that…..

That’s why in this case we should set up a side group and everyone books thier own accomodation, bikes and flights.
We just agree and do it all together.
