I'm planning a trip through Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and all down to Greece and Turkey. I like to keep away from the cities and main roads and just find a route through the country, with the occasional wild camping.

Are the mine areas well signposted? Has anyone else done this? Should i worry?

Would like to return with both wheels and both legs :D

About two miles inside Bosnia, I decided to wander-off for a pee.
I asked Louise why she had the camera pointed at me as I walked back.

"There is a sign here thats got a picture of an explosion on it. I was just getting ready for the bang".

There have been a couple of stories recently, of deaths in the east of Turkey due to landmines planted by the army and by the PKK, so although a bit extreme to say you might want to avoid anywhere east of Sivas if you want to wild camp, just to be on the safe side. Anywhere west of Sivas will be perfectly safe.

Headin down that way myself in Sept. Never gave it much o a thought but good point!!

Rule of thumb, if its already trodden, likely to be ok. If not avoid walking on it. If you need a tactical piss stop just Wazz on the hard standing.

Have an ace trip though and don't sweat the mines bit, the coast from split towards ploce is genuinely stunning, also try the Mostar valley. There's a ferry from split to brac which is quite a cool little island for a couple of days light trails or just chilling out :)

get a herd of goats, driven them over the ground you want to camp on, if they blow up... it's stew for supper!

or make it an open invite trip and when you workout they're cheesers send them in first...
