Lane Assist

Thinking of getting the zumo 660 but the main reason I want it over the nuvi 550 is that it has lane assist.

When I think of any journeys I've gone on the most mistakes by far that I have made have been selecting the wrong lane.

Does lane assist do what it's supposed to in general?
Is the coverage fairly comprehensive or is it only applied to certain types of motorway exits for example.
I'm trying to decide if that feature alone worth the price difference?

I'm not sure of the total coverage area, but using it yesterday on the M1 (just for testing purposes) it seemed to cope well with a number of major exits/motorway merges between J44 and J15.

However, I did find basic instructions to turn left or right on other roads were sometimes very late. I don't know if that's lag with satelite reception, or because I was riding too fast!

As I can't work out how to repeat the last voice command, it is/was bloody frustrating.

I'd hang on to your money for a few more weeks, until Gormless Garmin sort their act out regarding support.

If it's like the 550, then tapping the bottom right corner, that has the distance to go measurement, might work

Thanks - I think that just brings up the list of items you can have displayed there (direction, time to next turn etc etc) but I'll try it again when I've managed to finish updating the maps

Same with everything today, multiple options from one button.

Mrs slowdown has a Nuvi with lane assist - it's a really good feature that I really miss on the Zumo 550. I've not yet been disappointed with the feature

the other thing that I've found helpful is to run them in map mode, but third person follow me. In map mode its a lot clearer as to what you are coming up on and which way to go etc.

That said I still make mistakes, even with the autocom giving you voice as well as pictures I've still found that the instructions dont always seem to match what you come up againsts. To be fair though the times that I've normally gone wrong are when I'm trying to interperit what the GPS says rather than simply following the instructions.

Well they have missed that trick.

A phone call to Gormless Garmin confirmed that the feature doesn't exist on the 660.

Not sure if I'm going to miss it completely, but there are times when you can't hear the instruction properly and need to repeat it.

Another nail in Garmin's coffin?

Some of their units give multiple commands before a turn. Does this do the same?
